Mormonism is even more weird than I understood, if those myths are all true beliefs of the Mormons! That certifies Smith as a 19th century Hubbard, in my opinion. Thanks, Ishina.

Is this shit for real? Do they seriously believe all this space-polytheist-jingoist-mumbo-jumbo? (I actually already knew they were jingoists... but not the rest...)
I went to YouTube to get some background on this vid. While it may contain a lot of the believed doctrines of the LDS, it certainly doesn't seem to be either from them or sanctioned by them, and it very well could be a put-down of the LDS.
But, hey, that said...
One time, at the end of a week of hiking in the Zion Nat'l Park area, we spent our last night in St. George, UT. We had a little extra time in the afternoon, so we took a small tour of the area on foot (quite interesting, many historic buildings) including a tour of the local temple. The next day, on our long drive through the desert back through Vegas to home, my wife read aloud from some of the Mormon literature we were given in the temple tour. Basically, it was a "This Is Mormonism" tract.
I'm not sure if I ever laughed as loud or as often, and I know for a fact that at a number of points I said "No way! It actually says that???"
I think the only religion that I ever thought was more preposterously made up out of whole-cloth was Rastafarianism, but at least they could blame that on having developed the doctrine after having smoked a large number of righteous spliffs.

It's all true, even about the star Kolob, and Jesus being Lucifer's brother. That isn't even all the crazy shit. Smith even said there are people living on the Sun and Moon amongst other things.
The scary thing is, missionaries are trained to keep quiet about the crazier shit until converts are baptised. I wonder why.
To be fair though, it isn't that different from actual Christianity.
I disagree. Christianity as such is based on the deeds of a real man believed by followers to possess wondrous powers, including that of eternal life after death. He really did say many of the things ascribed to him and he did things which were turned into "miracles" by the time the much-embellished stories reached people in later times. Mormonism, on the other hand, is just space alien bull-crap.

Well, Joseph Smith actually said much of what is ascribed to him as well. There is also no evidence that he didn't walk up a wooded mound one day in western NY.
Additionally, Mormonism can be seen as an offshoot of Christianity.
Anyone that wants to borrow my Book of Mormon is welcome to.

Sorry, is this sarcasm?

all religions are made up out of whole-cloth and all are preposterous. but it helps us put something we can feel but not explain into a bucket that makes sense to some.
except this one was not, it took what was believed to be the pure version of previous faith and added some other cool stuff like golden tablets and some additional smitings

yes it was. all religions, even christianity and judaism, are made up. someone made them up at some point. its all made up, its all mythology. it is a man made way to explain diety, spirituality, etc. made the fuck up.
the point was that the particular religion being discussed was not made up "whole cloth" by the people who founded the religion. it was a morphed version of something that someone else made up ages before, with some new made up additions

aren't they all?

I would like to thank everyone for the clarification of the concept of "whole cloth", which in my usage was at least partially erroneous. I'm not even sure if it applies to Rastafarianism, but was a rather clumsy use of the term no matter.

Brass tablets, not gold. And there was no brass in the NA continent when he "found" them.
FWIW I've read the Book of Mormon, at least the one Joseph Smith wrote and it doesn't talk about all the stuff in the video of the OP. I think all that crazy stuff came about with Brigum Young.
When I first moved to Salt Lake City, I was all prepared to hate the Mormons.
Had my bags packed full of clothes and logic and reason, surely this would be my ultimate weapon against "them".
I'll slay them with the sword of facts and history, and everyone will notice me, and pay attention to me, glory hallelujah!
Upon arrival, I discovered that not everyone in Utah is Mormon, whoa.
Later I discovered that most of "them" were just like me, they were raised in a religion, but now they just blow it off, they don't really give a shit about it.
People are people, where ever they are.
A little later on, I discovered that the "ones" who do give a shit about it actually leave you alone and don't bother you, or make noise, they're all in their homes by around 7 pm, being quiet.
That's a very important thing, are you making noise to bother a lot of people? No? Then we're good.
I know it's more fun to differentiate yourself, and pick sides, and walk around telling everyone how unique and different you are, believe me, I know.
But I know eventually we'll all move beyond this, one funeral at a time.
The various plates and records referred to in the Book of Mormon and used in making it are (1) the plates of brass; (2) the record of Lehi; (3) the large plates of Nephi 1; (4) the small plates of Nephi; (5) the plates of Mormon; and (6) the twenty-four gold plates of Ether.
Everything I know about Mormons I learned by being one for my teenage years. (and a great deal of study... don't worry about their beliefs... worry about the Church's economic power)
Frankly, most of the video Ishina posted is bullshit. As is the "fucking thru the hole in the sheet" thing that Lucifer posted. Along with a bunch of stuff various people have posted.
I've got no problem with bashing Mormons, although they aren't any wackier than Catholics in belief or practice, but at least bash them based on facts, not propaganda.
For example, black skin being the mark of Cain was indeed church doctrine until the 70s and no black man could hold the Priesthood. But it had nothing to do with some fallen angel BS and everything to do with adopting American racism as a success strategy.

From the Book of Abraham, by Joseph Smith:
And thus there shall be the reckoning of the time of one planet
above another, until thou come nigh unto Kolob, which Kolob is after
the reckoning of the Lord's time; which Kolob is set nigh unto the
throne of God, to govern all those planets which belong to the same
order as that upon which thou standest.
For example, black skin being the mark of Cain was indeed church doctrine until the 70s and no black man could hold the Priesthood. But it had nothing to do with some fallen angel BS and everything to do with adopting American racism as a success strategy.
And he had caused the cursing to come upon them, yea, even a sore cursing, because of their iniquity. For behold, they had hardened their hearts against him, that they had become like unto a flint; wherefore, as they were white, and exceedingly fair and delightsome, that they might not be enticing unto my people the Lord God did cause a skin of blackness to come upon them.- 1 Nephi 5:21
