This was a very "yeah, duh? And?" article for me, but I'm cynical and capable of surprisingly immoral thought. The better of you may not have realised that our insurance companies support things that make their customers need them more.

(sorry if the link doesn't work, I had to manually type. Google "how many companies want you dead" if it is broke)

...but who actually care about as much for your general health and well-being as a Republican cares for his meth dealer's lesbian daughter's organic free-range Vermont wedding.
As for the rest... nice snark, but I already knew it.
Who wants people attuned and wise, spiritually secure and inwardly stable? Not the Coca-Cola Corporation. Not Exxon. Not the life insurance industry or Big Tobacco or Big Pharma. Not the Catholic Church. Not Yum! Brands, Pfizer, big agribiz and industrial farms, McDonald's, Kraft Foods, or your local school lunch program. Not most of Congress. Not Fox News or reality TV or the bleating clown car that is the Tea Party. Not fundamentalist Christianity, Mormonism or about 89 percent of Texas.
and this one:
Quote:
Are you seeking some good cash flow and (relative) long-term stability in the market? Invest in the classic cornerstones of capitalism: oil, sweatshops, junk food, pharmaceuticals, weapons manufacturers, industrial slaughterhouses, coal mining and so on, and tell your soul to shut the hell up. Daddy needs a new speedboat and some bullets for the apocalypse.
I agree btw. tin foil hat and all.

All health insurance companies would like you to live your life in good health and then, when seriously sick, to drop dead as soon as possible. But, as this article says, to go on from that business plan and fill us up with MacDonald's brand arteriosclerosis and the joys of obesity...
Where have I heard of such behavior before in a different arena? Oh, yes: the combination of automobile companies and oil companies that went about America buying up the streetcar companies, ripping up or paving over their tracks, then replacing the streetcars with diesel buses. Oh, yes, the corporations are guaranteed by the free market system to have the best interests of society in their little black hearts.

I have to agree with the basic premise. Corporations make more money by keeping us sickly and dependent on their garbage. Not sure what the alternative is? You'll never convince enough people to start giving enough of a shit to matter.
I mean, there are still people in the world who pay $6+ dollars a day on a pack of cigarettes (or more) and slowly kill themselves, irregardless of the OVERWHELMINGLY MASSIVE AMOUNT of this thing we call evidence that proves it WILL KILL YOU EVENTUALLY, usually SLOWLY and PAINFULLY! Yet it goes on and on and on and on.
I just feel that some people live in a realm where you can smack em in the face with a 2 by 4, and then if you shake their hand and tell em your sorry they'll let you fucking do it again. It's like
You'll never convince enough people to start giving enough of a shit to matter.
I'm convinced we HAVE corporate America, for this very reason. Taking your thought out to its end, I see "...and thus, we should fuck over all the stupid people, promote all the bright ones, and call it civilization."
