This is a bad ass idea because then all the people who can't buy shit from the ones who actually follow this plan will shop at my place and I'll make out like a bandit! Rawk on Charlie Brown!

The general consensus amongst content creators I have talked to is that this planned boycott is dumber than a bag of hammers and they'll be ignoring it completely.
Meh, it's not going to kill me to not spend money in SL for 48 hours. I'm willing to support this no matter how little impact it has economically. I probably won't even log in.
I'll show you, evil content theives. I wont buy anything from real content creators for 2 days! I wont even blog for 2 days! THIS IS HOW WE ROLL DONT FUCK WIT US!

Cross posting from SLU because there's a thread there, also, saying pretty much the same thing this one is saying:
It's an action that has little impact if only a few take part. It depends on LOTS of shops taking part, and lots of shoppers, too. It just strikes me as funny that there can be 900 indignant comments on a thread about copybotting, but few of those protesting so loudly are willing to support an action to stop it or call attention to it. An action has so much more impact if lots of people take the action, and to an audience (shoppers) that might not log in to SLU and know what's going on. No, shutting down shopping for two days won't do much to stop it, but it can show that the artist community in SL is cohesive and organized, if nothing else. Maybe it's a lesson in futility, actually, to show how disorganized and apathetic they actually are.
(and if PixelDolls, my favorite store, shut down over copybotting I'd be seriously sad for a very, VERY long time.)

While I do agree in concept I also believe that the economic impact will be negligible. That said, my weekly shopping will be diverted to another day
Yah, as I've said in random threads elsewhere, my problem with the whole STEP UP! / Artists' Voice / etc thing is that I'm not sure what their actual program is.
I mean, yeah, they are against copyright violation, but that's not exactly a bold and unusual stance.
Many of the things that they do seem aimed primarily at advertising themselves. Which makes me a bit suspicious.
They talk alot about getting the Lab to do something, but it's not clear to me what that something is. Some ppl associated w/ these groups have talked about taking the viewer closed-source, and/or about banning free accounts. I don't favor either of those approaches, myself.
If they had a clear agenda that I mostly agreed with (about getting the Lab to be clearer and more transparent and effective about their DMCA processes, for instance, and to have a consistent and reasonable policy on how and when they conduct actual content takedowns), I might well support them.
But just "copyright violation is bad!" and "pay attention to us!" don't really grab me as messages I'm willing to help them spread at this time...
Completely agree with this, and just don't see how this could possibly work. Not every content creator in-world reads forums/blogs and would have no idea of this going on.
I just don't see how this can work. Most stores I visit already have notices up about copybotting, so if its to raise awareness of the issue its already being raised both in-world and out here.

Good points, Dale. I have read the Shopping Cart blog a few times only. Does this blog advocate for content creators often, and in an organizer's role? Dancin's blog screed is kind of funny but not real helpful to understand what Shopping Cart is all about but I gathered he dislikes it and this protest action. lol
It's basically a fashionista collection of entries by a group of people.
They do store reviews, reviews of new products, and that sort of thing.
I don't keep up with it much really.
Tenshi Vielle is the owner?
She a pretty contraversial person and has been known to 'call out' people and/or a business before all the facts have been gathered. Sometimes she has been right, sometimes she has been wrong. She has been accused of stirring up a lot of drama just for the sake of stirring up drama through SCD.
That's all I know about Tenshi and SCD really.

Oh, I agree fully.
The way it sounded though, they do not appear to be friends any longer.

But the blog is old and full of content. It does not read like comedy, in my opinion. This protest is a serious(ly flawed?) attempt to organize consumers around an issue.
Like you, I question who gets behind political/economic issues as much as the actions they seem to endorse.

Well as a content creator I can honestly say this is not the kind of support I personally want -
If by running SCD you mean screaming at people to generate hits for her while completely trashing anybody who might disagree with her? Yes.

They do some fashion over there but mostly it consists of Tenshi beating her chest while screaming "LOOK!! WE TOOK OUR MODEL FROM WEEKLY WORLD NEWS!"

And you are better off for it.

I will sum it up.
She's like Prok only not as smart and less stable. All you really have to do to get her to chase her bone (Story) is shake her a little bit with some false info and point her in the wrong direction.

Somewhere out there, there is a plant that I really like. Her carbon dioxide is currently feeding that plant. That is pretty much her only redeeming quality.

Bitch went crazy
Fired Iris for Iris yelling at her for sharing Iris' chatlogs and yelling at her infront of me. (Weird right?)
I kicked her rent free ass off my land.
She accused me of hacking into SCD with this lovely bit of lunacy.

Look people- LL doesn't get a dime of the money my store makes (directly, nvm tier etc). How the hell is it going to matter one fig to LL if I make or don't make money for two days, two weeks, two months? How does hurting the content creator make the copybot people quake in fear?
Get a friggin grip! This is so beyond stupid it's mind boggling-
