I took a quick look. There were steampunk builds three years ago that looked better, not to mention how the state-of-the-art has developed meantime. Any resident of Caledon/Babbage/etc could tell you that.

To my mind, with steampunk, less is more.

Builds that are firmly based on things that dis in fact exist in the Victorian era, with a few details added, are far better than some brass monstrosity with too many rivets, that makes it look like the inhabitant lives inside a badly constructed steam boiler.

Steampunk should not be dohickeys and whatnots connected meaninglessly. You got steam? Then you need to know temperature and pressure. You have condensers and boilers and pipes and a conversion unit that extracts energy from the steam to deliver it in the form desired (usually mechanical). Thingummies that convert steam directly into non-mechanical energy forms still require condensers or you add the humor of constantly adding water to your system, which Terry Thomas, Jack Lemmon, or Peter Sellers would handle with great alacrity.

Since Michael Faraday in 1838 first proposed magneto-hydrodynamics as a means of converting heat into electricity, I'm surprised that I've not seen such devices concocted in steampunk art.
