Default The Unofficial SC Sport Thread

So I figure, I guess there's people here who follow certain sports, or at least follow certain major events. But if we make a new thread for every event, that's kinda like clutter, because after the event is over the thread is mostly done and just sits there all lonely and neglected. And it's unfair to turn other threads into sports threads because people who aren't interested in the least might get turned off and stop posting there.

So this will be like a never ending sports thread; when an event is over, when some other event starts we just keep on going in the same thread. No muss no fuss, savvy? And for each event we can discuss results and post pics or whatever if we're so inclined.

Or not - if you want to start a separate thread for an event anyway i guess you can. It's just an idea I had kicking around.

Personally I tend to follow international events more-so than all-American sports; so you won't hear me talking about baseball really (unless my Cleveland makes the playoffs), and I don't follow football or basketball really. I also don't follow college sports at all. Although go ahead and post about those things if you want!

So anyway, if you think this is a good idea let's do it.

Okay to start things off, Le Tour de France begins tomorrow!

Augustus posted this link for American coverage by NBC (some parts require a subscription).

SBS of Australia also provides coverage here for free, but they may talk funny.

Both services have (or will have) smartphone apps as well.

If you fill out a 38b/6, we can upgrade this thread to official.

PROLOGUE - Liège Liège 6.4 km .
At the end of the 6-km long route, marked out in the city-centre of Liège, the Yellow Jersey will reward the master of an athletic feat. Pure power will be the best strategy on the course’s long straight stretches. And the Belgian public, who is always present for the Tour, will definitely encourage the riders to achieve excellence.

Favorits
Wiggins will win second Evans

I can post results and stats, like in the Euro thread. ^^

There's lots and lots of teams and riders; the list is too long for me to post snapshots of the whole list, it won't all fit on my iPod screen! But I will post snaps of the results of the stages when the race starts. Definitely all the jersey winners anyway.

BTW for peeps in the US with cable, each stage will start live at 8 AM ET, so adjust accordingly, etc.

I think it's hard to count out Cancellara, even after his injury earlier this season, in any prologue.

Either way, Cancellara-Wiggins, 1-2.

ETA: Kaimi beat me to this, because I didn't read the whole thread first.

Tout, you live in France. Can you tell me what happened to the driver of the car responsible for this last year:

Was he punished in some way? English news from the time says they were considering some kind of action, but I've been unable to find out what finally happened.

Prologue has 4 hill, not sure if Cancellara can beat Evans and Wiggins

The driver of the car was excluded from the tour. that all i know i can research more if you like.
The driver was simply avoiding a tree. - But lousy driving skills anyhow.

Last to day news.
Armstrong formally accused of doping
Posted on 29/06/2012 at 22:59, updated on 29/06/2012 at 23:03
The seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong has been formally indicted for doping by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, USADA said Friday.
A committee of "experts (anti-doping review board ') has" unanimously "recommended the continuation of the proceedings initiated in mid-June by USADA, which accuses the former American cyclist of having doped since 1996 and up 'in 2011.

Lol! I'm a fan of his. I thought being beat by Peter Sagan in stage 1 of the Tour de Suisse was a bit of a surprise. Turned out not to be so much of a fluke; I'm a Sagan fan now too.

Good point. But it's a short course. Which still might work against him I guess.

Broken ankle, unspecified abdominal injuries; he's being evaluated at the hospital. He is not expected to compete in tomorrow's final.
