Default Time to bury Hatchets ETC

I posted this in the bunker for a reason.

Today Josh approached me, not to start a fight, but to end things.

There was no arguing, there was no venom, there was no spite.

Just a young man, tired of three years of feuding over stupid shit on the internet.

He's just posted on SLU, to say hes leaving in an effort to make it all stop. I've held this post until he did so.

He's weary of his association with Cris causing problems for Cris, and he has decided that in an effort to end it, he's gonna leave SLU.

He's weary of being the "internet villain" and doesn't know any other way to stop it all.

Its all over.

Lets not gloat, lets not sit around patting each other on the back or any lame shit like that.

Lets just let it go, eh?

Cold turkey is often the best way to find freedom from addictions. I'll wish him well and leave it at that.

His analysis of the situation in that post shows that he has no idea why people get so annoyed with him. I know nothing of the old SC altercations, don't care to, but found him to be an intolerable human being a year ago. There have been enough clues dropped in the Dr Laura thread, which he's obviously read, for him to puzzle it out. But he hasn't, and I suspect won't for a long time to come. I do hope that one day he has a startling moment of realization, that it all clicks, and he understands why so many people, both old and new, found him to be a compete jackass.

It's been *glorious* being largely out of forums for two years. I have nothing against *anybody*.

Blissful ignorance. I'd share it if I only could!

I'd bury a hatchet, but... I don't have one to bury.

Shall I just pass around the Koolaide then?

prediction: won't be long before all sides to past fights will post here anyway

second prediction: in addition they will start using some of those godawful smileys, too

Love, Josh and I have history .... and its not all love and roses.

Far from it.

But regardless, he's gone, and its over.

The time for recriminations is over.

It needs to die.

This seems, now more than ever, completely unnecessary. It was mildly annoying back when people had no viable alternatives given that SLU was the only game in town. But with SCII, we now have choices. People who liked Josh's forum behavior along with SLU's moderation policies with regard to Josh should have a place to go, and SLU seems to be the place. People who don't appreciate those things have a different place to go too, and that would be SCII.

Perhaps with time, Josh will change his mind as he did last year after his ban/self-imposed departure. As a user who visits and posts both at SLU and SCII, It seemed to me that Josh was happy at SLU, Cris was happy to have him, and many SLU folks like Ari, and others were also happy to have Josh there. So I don't know why he would leave.

There has been a lot of shit said about him in the last little while. He is human, i think it took a toll on him to know that half a community doesn't like him.

That would be a hard one to swallow.

I think he felt as long as he was there, it would continue as an obsession here and so would the stuff about Cris.

I would be sad if most of my friends didn't want to be in the same forum as I.

However, he did "leave" once before for a short time, with little lasting impact...

Forgive the cynicism, but do leopards really change their spots?

Chaz, I've had issues with him for a long time...

I'm prepared to take him at his word.

We talked for over an hour tonight.

I wasn't sure what to expect when he contacted me, and all i got was this overwhelming sense of despair tiredness and resignation from him, and yes, I felt sorry for him.

Maybe I'm a mug, maybe i'm wrong, but hell.... lets at least wait and see.

Unfortunately, this is an overly simplistic view of why someone would choose one forum or the other. Neither forum is free of irritating-as-fuck people. It's just a matter of which hill you want to die on.

Maybe he felt that way, but I don't think it's the reality. Like people who get up and walk out of a restaurant after the waiter ignores them for 45 minutes, dinner conversation will naturally include some venting and bitching when they arrive at the new restaurant. But It doesn't last and eventually folks get it out of their system and move on.

Maybe when SC moves on and begins to develop its own identity, personality, and internally driven drama that isn't defined by other forums or people, Josh will return to SLU.

I was one of those who was happy to have Josh around - I never had any personal argument with him, but I think a lot of the things that Fmeh said about him here before, are dead-on.

I think sometimes I forget just how young Joshua actually is.

And I think Love is right too - he's leaving because he really doesn't know why people don't like him, and he doesn't have enough experience to react any other way.

It's not overly simplistic. We choose the lesser of two (or more) evils, and even that choice need not be a boolean choice but rather one that weighs how much of our time and effort we spend at some locations vs. others. I stand by my original statement that the more choices we have, the more the community can tolerate people or policies that we don't care for at any one given forum.

I should add also - I don't see the whole thing as being in any way a choice between SLU OR SCII. As far as I'm concerned I have friends in both places and I've no intention to quit one on order to post at the other. I see these two forums as being very different places, and not mutually exclusive.

I'm sorry, Aimee, but that is an incorrect statement of how I felt about the situation. I don't expect you to know how I felt about Josh, but a reading of any of our recent dialogs would have cleared up that misconception. I just didn't have any reason to hate or vilify him.

Yeah... I'm on a pretty short fuse myself. I'm at 5-1/2 months on unemployment and I have my NET test on Monday.

I swear, after I get my results Monday and (hopefully) turn in my application, I'm hopping on my motorcycle and taking off for a road trip - WITHOUT my laptop.

I haven't left SLU and never intended to.

I've probably had more fights with Josh than anyone other than Mulch and it didn't bother me he was there except when we were fighting. He's been "here" more or less continually since I joined SL. Some people are, in fact, addicted to this ongoing drama. Some of those have less than half the reason to give a shit as I do, so I don't get it.

I'll be frank and admit that a big reason I came over here was because I was tired of how Joshua bullied and ragged on people he didn't like all the time, and I wasn't even one of his targets.

I remember when he left before, I felt like the general atmosphere of SLU improved greatly. People seemed to feel freer to express their opinions, for the most part (I'll grant maybe I'm suffering from selective memory, but that's my story).

It's not that Joshua is a bad person. I think he's very intense and probably still a bit immature. I've seen him go to the wall for his friends and I've always respected that, even if I didn't respect his tactics.

I just posted over there in the thread to say that I think he proved to be the bigger man by doing this. It takes a lot of courage to walk away from something you love when you know that your presence is causing problems for a friend. That took guts, and I'm giving him credit for it.

Maybe it should be the first peace offering and some of us can let go of the Josh Hatred now, and get on with more important things?

I'll have to say, Joshua is the main reason I did not post at SLU, I might even sign up now.

OK.. back to the hatchet.

Growing up in my snake-pit of a family, we had a saying... Whose back is the hatchet going to get buried in this time?

Color me skeptical about Joshua's leaving making much of a difference to those with hard-ons for him.

But, hey --- I'd love a nice surprise, or maybe
