Johnny I just wanted to publicly apologize to you. You do not deserve such abuse. I hope we can still be friends.

Well you see my Redsox are toying around with his Astros, making these last at bat come backs and I want to make sure he is not taking it personal.

Is it love? Is it war?
If so, then all is fair.
Otherwise, it is not fair.

Since sports are not love or war, feel free to be unfair.

Please note, that if it were love or war, then all would be fair.
Since all is fair, you can do anything you like.

Johnny. Even real baseball teams have a bad night. What about the comebacks though? Gotta love this team.

I don't remember the last two games. All I can remember is the $150 million payroll Red Sox got shut out by the $26 million payroll Astros

Yeah, and we were in the World Series just a couple of years ago.

Did I mention we shutout the Red Sox a couple days ago?

I'm a home grown, true blue Dodger fan, when I wasn't rooting for the Angels or the Rockies.

LOL, the very first pro baseball game I took my son to was the Mariners/Dodgers - This happened:

Far left. Jay Buhner. Best left fielder ever yo play the game and I'll challenge anyone who disagrees to a fist fight. My son was almost named Jay Buhner. My ex, who was probably right, although I hate to admit it, vetoed the idea.

I remember exactly where I was in '96 when they won the pennant. Martinez got that hit and Griffey rounded third and I jumped out of the couch screaming at the top of my lungs and literally punched two dents in the ceiling with my fists. I was picking popcorn ceiling out of my knuckles for days. I might have cried.

One of the greatest games of all time. (ESPN has it at #15, but they're completely wrong. I think I could convince them to change their minds if they'd stop throwing out my letters.)

I remember going to the Dome on Buhner Buzz Cut nights. My pops would never let me get my head shaved, though. EVERYBODY wanted a Buhner buzz.

I remember Griffy Jr and Sr both hit a home run in the same game once. Was that on the Mariners or an All Star team?

Must have been some sort of all-star team. I don't think they played at the same time. Griffey Sr. was the batting coach for the Mariners when Jr started playing.

Sports are stupid, but at least you have a large piece of the roster with those in attendance and their credit card info. mmm $12 dollar crappy hot dog and $4.50 watered down beer. Sports and sporting teams are just government subsidies to control the population. Did you guys have fun? CAUSE YOU JUST SOLD YOUR SOUL

In most venues, the public subsidize professional sports. The only local exception that I can think of the is San Francisco Giants stadium which, because the city refused repeatedly to pay for it, was privately financed.

Santa Clara is paying for the new 49ers stadium. Oakland paid for the Raiders stadium and many improvements. San Francisco paid for Candlestick stadium and numerous improvements to it. I think it's that way in most venues: the city or county pay. And pay.

Most cities don't mind because big-league professional sports tend to turn a tidy profit in terms of tax and local-economy spending.

Most cities don't mind? Really? $100 million to keep a team in town? You have data to support the idea that a city receives a net benefit economically from keeping a team in town?

Much wailing a gnashing of economic teeth has happened over keeping even individual players in town.

Cities shouldn't be paying annually to keep a sports team in town. There can be an initial subsidy for building the stadium, but this should be paid back over a scheduled period of time. That's how Cleveland did it with its stadiums - they're paid off, and the costs of the teams are now paid by those teams as far as I'm aware.

Perhaps others came up with different plans, or built ridiculously expensive stadiums that are taking forever to pay off. Or they can't get tickets sold because the team is unlucky. So I guess it's true that a sports team might not necessarily be a boon to every city.
