Actually the bdsm was pretty tame in the books but still they acted like it was the most salacious thing they ever read *fans self*. Rather bizarre given how much of this stuff IS in mainstream media/music videos. I mean... spanking?? It's been a slap and tickle vanilla game since forever. The whips are new to "mainstream" but... fuck I don't get it, if they have fun and their sex lives are more enjoyable... maybe they will stop voting Republican. Win-Win.
We were talking about this and i kept thinking about pre-code films. I remembered a quick clip of Jean Harlow in Red Headed Woman. Out of curiosity I checked YouTube and what do you know, the exact news clip I saw 12 years ago. The Harlow clip I was talking about is about 54 seconds in

I liked Twilight, the first two books. I found the vampire and werewolf stuff boring, particularly the more contrived it got to make up for the growing plot deficiencies in the third and fourth books. The first two books were wonderful because without the specific vampire stuff, they were accurate and articulate depictions of adolescent angst, capturing all those moments and then some that we've each had during our first mind-blowing crushs. The minute and detailed examination of everything about the object of our crush, the fretting and worrying over what did he mean when he said/did that, and if we're lucky, the glorious fulfillment of that first kiss or touch or whatever it was that changed it from a crush to something more.

Ahh. Maybe that is why I don't like it. I just can't relate to it.
I don't remember my first crush going like that at all.
