Haven't decided yet (yes I have...). I think my plans are to first use the drone to instill fear in my enemies (coworkers that steal my candy), second to make many youtube videos of the fear I've instilled. Once that mission is complete, I assume I'll have fun chasing squirrels, confusing my cat with it and seeing what kind of neat uses I can find for the apis and sdks I've found for it (maybe flight path recording / playback, object recognition, whatever strikes me).

Oh, and to answer your question, lots and lots of random youtube watchers.

If it's being controlled by a smart phone then it can't have a very large range.

I've been thinking about this and the only way the phone could control it was through WiFi so the range would be controlled by the power of your router and if you were in a WiMax zone that would be pretty big.

Tech Wizzy stuff is not my expertise though.

The web site says range of 50 meters but I haven't done any research since I can't get any more stuff until after the move.

At 50 meters, that's getting too far away to really see it clearly, so it should be sufficient. Although, I've seen guys flying remote controlled gliders and they get so far up, they're like specks. I don't know how they do it.

On the other hand, maybe I just need to get a new glasses prescription.

I thought the idea was that you used the drone's eye(s) to see where you're going. Not so?

Good point. With my luck, I'd get lost and never be able to find where I crashed the thing.

maybe the range should be based on how far you're willing to walk to retrieve it when you inevitably fly into a tree or pile it into the ground. If you're like me, you only need a range of about 35 feet. If you're some sort of marathon runner, you're going to need GPS and a SAT phone.

It would be quite fun/useful at large events such as art fairs, farmer's markets, renaissance fairs, etc.

I could see someone setting up at big screen tv with a video feed from the drone and then flying around the event filming/checking things out.

If I let you know, you'll just close your shades and I won't be able to get any good pictures. I suggest wearing a helmet whenever you go outside from now on. The propellers look to be enclosed, so when I accidentally smash it into you, you're looking at blunt force trauma, not severe lacerations. As long as you can avoid a bad head injury, all the other wounds should heal just fine.

Oh yeah - you also might want to pull your car into the garage. I don't have insurance.

I'm going to go ahead and say it. No matter how cool this is and how much I want one, modern drone technology is the most terrifying thing I have ever bothered to read up on.

You guys should see what the military grade one of these can do.

Small drones like this actually terrify me. Mark my words sometime soon we will dropping semi autonomous quadroters with shaped charges in them who's sole purpose in life is to lay dormant until they see something to launch themselves at and blow up.

I mean I could see something like a C5 just flying over Afghanistan dropping them by the pallet load. They then disperse and idle on solar power on the ground until they see a profile matching "Insurgent" and launch themselves at him.

The last thing the man hears is the VZZZZZT of the fans whirling up then BOOM.

You have to step on a mine. You only have to get in eye range of a drone.

THEY sent A SLAMHOUND on Turner's trail in New Delhi, slotted
it to his pheromones and the color of his hair. It caught up
with him on a street called Chandni Chauk and came scrambling
for his rented BMW through a forest of bare brown legs
and pedicab tires. Its core was a kilogram of recrystallized
hexogene and flaked TNT.
