oooo DO want! I was poring over this trying to figure out the catch, and all I was thinking was 'was, this looks great! I hope they finish it so I can see the end result!'

It does look pretty nifty, but it is VERY early in development.

Thanks, Viv!
I just signed up for Beta.

(I should really keep a list of games I've beta'd.)

Looks interesting.
From what I can tell, you have to pick one of the three "archetypes", but can customize them a bit.
A little restrictive on that side, but the game looks great!

How negative does it make me that I saw NCSoft and pretty much knew I'd hate the actual game? NCSoft has this nasty history of building these games with great promise and then never living up to them

While true I think there is a difference between making a brilliant and fun game that doesn't quite meet the featureset you were shooting for (See every Fable game ever) and having a brilliant idea and fucking it up so bad in execution that only Koreans and niche players want to play it.

I call this the Troika curse :sigh:

You just described the first Lineage to a T.
I was in the beta for it and was a great idea but ended up something you couldn't pay me to play.

Well, I'm a fan of City of Heroes/Villains/etc, so for me it was a plus to see that name there.

I'm reserving judgement until I see it in action, or even better... if I get into Beta.

Those were cryptic games, published by NCSoft. Cryptic has since moved on to make other games while NCSoft is doing more in house building.

Also frankly; Cryptic is a terrible game maker. So far they have made: city of heroes. City of heroes 2 (Champions Online) and City of Heroes deep space nine (Star Trek Online) they all play exactly the same. Boring.

True, but NC Soft has kept up the development and support pretty well.
Just sayin... I think it's worth a look-see.

That was a really long trailer for a game. I thought it was a movie trailer at first. Signed up for beta, too.

I know you were shooting for snark here, but you have me pegged wrong.

Heres a list of games linked to my Steam Account and what I think of them. I figure about a quarter of them or so were bad, or boring, or flawed. The rest were a lot of fun.

Aliens vs. Predator - Kinda crappy

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - Worst of the non future battlefields: Still better than most games ever made.

BioShock - Awesome

BioShock 2 - Kinda crappy

Borderlands - Lots of fun with friends, solo not so fun.

Bully: Scholarship Edition - Amusing

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Outstanding

Call of Duty: MW2 - Multiplayer outstanding, Singleplayer kinda meh.

Call of Duty: World at War - Absolutely terrible.

Champions Online - Bad, for free it's better, but as MMO's go it's well behind say... WoW.

Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 - Nothing beats the first red alert, still lots of fun though.

Company of Heroes and expansions - Outstanding

Crysis - Outstanding tech demo

Crysis 2 - And they made a great game out of it the second time!

Dead Rising 2 - Tons of fun!

Deus Ex - Best game ever made.

Doom 3 - I don't care what the critics say, I jumped! It was fun.

Dragon Age 2 - Absolutely terrible.

Dragon Age Origins: Really good!

E.Y.E.: Divine Cybermancy: really weird, kinda deus ex meets warhammer. I enjoyed it.

Elder Scrolls Oblivion: Loved it.

Empire Total War: Meh.

FEAR 2: Lots of fun!

Fallout New Vegas: Addictive and fun!

Far Cry 2: Garbage

From Dust: Interesting

All of the GTA Series: Lots of fun!

Gratuitous space battles: Is a blast when you have just 20 minutes to kill

Half life 2+ xpacs: Lots of fun!

IL-2 Sturmovik: Lots of fun!

Just cause 2: Staple an airplane to a car and drive it off a cliff: Lots of fun!

Left 4 Dead 2: Outstanding fun!

Mass Effect 2: Best game of last year!

Max Payne + Max Payne 2: I don't even remember buying these on steam, but they were a blast back in the day.

Need for Speed hot pursuit: Fun, but underground was better.

Portal: Everyone loves portal

Red Faction 1/2/Guerilla: Loved em!

Stalker: Wildly difficult, accurate to life gun mechanics, awesome.

Saints Row 2: GTA only more ridiculous? Can't wait for the next one.

Civ 4 + xpacs: Great game!

Sid Meiers Pirates: Good game, but flawed (Lacks content)

Spore: Good concept, but flawed (lacks content again)

Star Trek Online: Ground combat was terrible, lacks content, made by cryptic thus needs a lot of polish.

Star Wars Battlefront: I think I'm the only person that enjoyed these games

Star Wars Dark Forces and Sequels: I can't believe they stopped making these, they were all outstanding.

Team Fortress 2: Hats! I enjoy it allthough not as much as my prefered online romp: Battlefield.

Total War: Shogun - Back to basics total war, I'm enjoying it a lot

Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines - Troika, fatally flawed but a lot of fun

Warhammer Dawn of war etc etc - I'm a sucker for warhammer titles and these are well done.

Wings of Prey: Nowhere near as good as IL-Sturmovic

The Witcher 2: Good game that I need to actually play... sigh

World in Conflict: Decent RTS, but I'm not a huge fan of RTS

X-Com: The second best game ever made, and the only game that has been on every computer I own for the last 15 years.

Necro bump: I've been beta testing this and the NDA is lifted so I can talk about it.

Housing is pretty cool.

Combat would be a lot cooler if the TTK wasn't absolutely rediculous, in theory it's being toned down but world trash currently takes forever to kill. The upper tiers of "World trash" (and I don't mean elite monsters like in WoW) are on par with elite monsters in WoW, and the elites can and will fuck your day up.

TTK is a major issue, and it can take forever to do a "Kill space bears in this area" because instead of killing X amount of bears, you have to fill up an XP bar worth of bears. Sounds good in theory but the tagging system (Who gets credit for what is killed) works off of how much damage you do to a monster.

Again sounds good in theory but there are some classes with frontloaded damage, and other classes with backloaded damage. This means the frontload guys in a crowded zone blast through their quests fairly quick, meanwhile since you as a backloaded class have to "Spool up" to your damage you end up only taking off the last 3% of health on the monster and get 1% reward on the quest.

This game needs a lot of polish, it's fun but some of the design decisions are fucking dumb as hell.

I'll buy it anyways because I like the art.

Eh hehehehhueueu

Paths basically decide what goofy in world sidequests you get and one additional power on your power bar based off of which one you pick.

The game is still very much tank/dps/heals.

The thing that's really selling this game is the housing.

Here's some random screenshots, please note I haven't really done much work in making the house look good, I'm just plopping shit down.

But first let me introduce you to my character KitCatalion and her fluffkin mount (I don't remember the name of it)

Yes I made a girl. And she's adorable.

She even got you tickets to the gun show:

This is what a housing plot looks like in general, a big floating place where you can put stuff:

You can build plugs for your land, some are just nice looking some are useful:

My favorite at the moment is the mining plug which I use to make money, it respawns with minable nodes every hour(ish)

Housing interiors are pretty customizable and utilize a SL style placement system, some stuff you buy from the built in store, other stuff drops, and there's also a large list of craftable stuff that architects can make:

Yeah house decorating is going to destroy my gold supplies. Enjoy the pictures.

Oh the best part of this game is the CREDD system, much like Eve Online's Plex, people with a lot of time but no money can farm gold and buy CREDD (1 month playtime) from other players.

People with more money than sense can buy CREDD and sell it for gold.

I'm going to stock up early on to see if I can make this free to play the same way I did my second Eve account. And my third eve account.

Y'know... looking through the screenshots again...
it seems to me that what we have here is what would've happened if Everquest and WoW had a baby.

I probably won't get to try this anytime soon.
If it was free, sure... I'd check it out.
But as it stands, I'm not looking to buy another game right now.

(I'm currently active in Elder Scrolls Online, feel bad for not playing (now my secondary game) Guild Wars 2 and just picked up Watchdogs for Xbox One on Thursday. Beyond that, there are several other MMORPGs I could get back to... plus ESO on XBone later this year... and City of Titans, which is supposed to be late next year.)

I shouldn't be even entertaining these thoughts, but...
If anyone has a guest key they aren't planning on giving to anyone, I'd be more than happy to give this game a try that way.

I doubt I'd go on to buy it, but without trying it I'll never know.

I'm doing a trial right now, and it's a bit better than the beta. Unfortunately, can't give you any guest keys! If you do get one, we're on Evindra (sp?).

Thanks anyway!

I never got in the beta, so have nothing to compare it to.
But, better is better!

If I get a key, I'll keep Evindra in mind.
