I keep reading this thread title as "Avatar Portraits by Mo!" instead of "Moi" and I'm thinking "Hey Mo, hey Mo! Nyuk nyuk nyuk..."

Weird.
This thread remains in the "new posts" section, even though there is nothing new.

Well, now there is.
I'm hoping this comment will kick it in the tuckus.

Also, your gallery shots got me thinking that I should get back to working on the "wallpaper" for my store. Fucking shit is mostly responsible for how long it's taking me to get my store ready for it's grand opening. I couldn't just pick a nice repeating texture... I had to insist on piecing together a wall that has all kinds of shit on it, as if it were being placed there over the years or something.

Anyway... sorry for my tangent.
Back to Jen's paintings and avatar portraits!
(I'd love to see more examples, if possible.)

A HA! I see what happened... although it's still weird.

Johnny's post was doubled, but the second page wasn't showing up for it.
Well, now it's working properly again and y'all can actually get back to the OP again.

I have been doing a wee bit to it, but have accomplished nothing huge yet. Lots of excuses for that-- mainly the fact that I keep getting waylaid by other people on my way to the easel-- but excuses are like armpits- everybody's got at least one and they all stink....

Have been struggling to finish the housepaint gig here in town, which has kept us surviving the past couple of months [the water line to the house sprang a leak this last week, for instance, and my paltry hours covered the replacement pipe [thank God/dess Matt was able to fix it himself] and of course our own kitchen-fixup [the counters are finally done, and Matt's wrestling w/ the sink drain as I type][hope to have it ready to work by this evening], and getting ready for the garden, and the $*(!@& Easter thing just got piled onto me too.

So I've been swamped, and not in a good way...

But I should have something worth showing to the dude [who is, by the way, awesome, so stop being mean to him! ] in the coming week or so. Like I said, have been doing a little bit here and there to it, and am all but done at the other place, so I'll be able to put in a few days in a row on it soon.

I'll have to ask him if he cares if I show it here.

Thank you! I'm going to go out and dig in the dirt for a while, now... plant some beans, etc.

I have no idea what he's talking about half the time, and I live with him.
I'll tell him to respond if he's actually serious.

Love the paintings of the dogs!

Jen, your work is lovely. I get half done with a painting and then I freeze... afraid to fuck it up. I think I just need to fuck up a painting or two to get over it.

I admire how you carry through. Thanks for showing us your progress.

Lula, I was frozen for half a dozen years or so, this last time I froze. I completely understand.
What I finally did when I got the courage up to break out of it was to just take out the unfinished paintings and start hacking away at them, bit by bit, until I finished one, and then another. Just babysteps, and only an hour or so a day to start. And don't beat yourself up [that was my biggest problem]. It is what it is, and just mess around until it evolves, regardless of outcomes.

I still have a few that need to be finished, they languish in a stack in the closet. Some of them I don't even want to look at. But this commission comes first, thank God/dess, so I get to ignore them a bit longer [many were begun just before my life fell apart, ergo they trigger bad memories].

And btw I'm behind on the timetable I'd outlined when I started on these doggies [life intervened, repeatedly] so even though I'm still tiptoeing forward, I'm still behind.

...which reminds me- gotta get to work again!

Johnny's my hero- that's why all the jokes about the client earlier in the thread.

He wanted to commission a portrait of his dogs. I couldn't just do something boring, though.

I'm working from a number of snapshots, the hilarious part [for me] is that every. single. one. is of the right sides of the dogs' heads, and in this painting, I managed to set things up so that the left side of both dogs' heads are in the image. D'OH! But I am fairly good at faking it...

This commission came at a moment when we absolutely needed it, so I'm eternally grateful for the work, too.

Still have some minor tweaking and surprise magical stuff to put into the job, but it's pretty much all but done now.

Thanks to all for the compliments, you make me blush.
and
Thank you, Mr. Johnny Vann, you're my hero.
