LOL I know -the freebie "child" skin there is horrible. Hopefully I can find a better one. I haven't had much luck finding kids' shops there yet though.

I don't even have enough time to sort my inventory in SL, let alone take on another virtual world... how do you people do it?

I tried. I couldn't.

I can't barely manage SL anymore. I used to have a lot more free time than I do now and what free time I have, seems too precious to spend in world.

YMMV

I know this feeling. I try to spend more time in world, but when I do, nothing much is happening. Then when I disappear Mo decides to have an impromptu party. Hmmmm . . .

No - just teasing. There really is a lot going on in my 1st life. I've cut way back on forums too.

No. I made elderberry juice. the pectin was too old.

Today I will try doing it again with fresh pectin and see if it sets up. (crossing fingers)

I was sorry I missed it, too. Had the flu that night (or mini-flu) due to the vaccination the previous day, so my head ached too much to be online.

I made some strawberry jam the other week, but didn't use pectin - it was just kind of "fresh" jam, not meant to last. It came out yummy, but also not enough pectin in the fruit to set up right. A bit loose, but still spreadable on toast so all was good

I go make myself microwaved hot dogs for lunch. See, I also . . um . . make my own stuff.

(I've made mongolian bbq, and beef & brocoli, and fench toast, eggs, bacon; etc. I can cook, I just find it too time consuming. Plus the whole "I have intense fear going to slip and accidently cook my hand due to getting major electric shock when child and seeing mother burn herself on the stove a few times" thing. (at this point I think mother's hands have had nerves burned off))

Lexxi - sorry about your mom, first of all. I can't imagine witnessing that. I have a brother-in-law who had a big pot of boiling oil fall on his leg when he was a child; he has terrible scars on his thigh from that so I know how awful that can be.

As for your cooking dilemmas, which I saw on Twitter. Aside from using the microwave, you can pick up a George Forman grill, and a small electric griddle (I remember you didn't want to hook up the gas stove) for very small amounts of money. Griddle are as cheap as $10 at Macy's on sale at times, the Forman grill is inexpensive too. This way, you can make hamburgers, grilled cheese, and much better eggs than in a microwave. Even a steak The Forman is great for making boneless chicken breasts. And not time consuming at all in comparison to using the stove. And easy clean up

And, much less expensive than eating out every day, or buying microwave foods. You have to be spending a small fortune eating that way I'd imagine. Plus you'll get the variety you're seeking.

I had a tendency to eat at specific places back in VA. I keep wanting to pick up food I ate down there, but they are not reachable up here. Comfort food. Somewhat of a "I miss my old life" type thing. I used to eat and read in places, but that is hard to do if it not fast food place.

I'll look into those cooking thingies. gah. I just accidently erased everything I wrote (one of those select all when I was trying to select one word)
I wrote something about attempting to make sandwiches, made myself ill but more importantly they didn't have the style of meat I like (chunky, everything here is sliced thin) and costs a small fortune. Meat, bread, sauces. Stretches, of course, but that only matters if I don't make myself ill from the sandwiches and actually use the stuff. hehe.

The microwaved hotdogs will end up costing $1.90 (broken down for that meal, bread and hot dogs; not including liquid nurishment, ketchup). And a lot of time I end up eating cereal as a meal. Tending to only buy certain ones when they on sale, like 2 for 1 or like.

You can spread cost making your own, but it would be just for me, and I have problem eating left-overs (except pizza; mostly problem involving how to make it anywhere close to edible) so it cost less to eat out or eat cereal, or hot dog. One $10 box of pizza can make three meals, though it tends to only make two.

Today's batch looks like it has set up and all the jars sealed properly. I'm half afraid to open one in case it's just a mirage.

As Josh said, it's a very long story. An accidental thread became a no-specific-subject-matter community thread that took on a life of its own a few years back. An in world group grew up around it. When the official SL forums closed down, the thread was started in a couple of other forums too, including here.

It has a reputation for being pleasant with little or no trolling.

I didn't know it had been archived. Cool!

IIRC, the thread became epic because there was no "General Discussion" section on the old forums, so it was one of the few places where we could just shoot the breeze; by some luck it was not moderated out. It was the impromptu version of other forums' "Nobody Cares" threads. (My favorite ones, those and Mess Hall.)

Nope, because I'm not getting old, I am old. But it might mean you haven't been paying attention for a decade or more. It takes a lot of effort to maintain your awareness and knowledge base while continually adding to it.

I hear you, though.

However, I think that half is the "drahmahz" half so I'm pretty content to let that all go right over my head like a 747. Wait, do they still have 747's?

I can't decide if the whole SL forums community -- SCII, SLU, the official blogrums, gotVirtual, Forum Confidential, etc., etc., etc. -- have fragmented to the point where one really can only even "know" what is going on in one place, or whether the whole community is so attenuated that everything is going on everywhere at once. The amount of cross-posting from forum to forum, or the spillover of a fight in one place to another, suggests maybe the latter.

Hi Malia, btw, and welcome back, if I haven't said it yet!

No, the spillover only reflects the activities of an obsessive few -there's tons of people at SLU and (I'm sure) the official blogorums that have no idea WTF about gV and/or the FC.

I'd even venture to say that there's a good number of people here at SCII who've got no idea what the heck all of the drama is all about.

You can't paint any community by it's extremists. Ours included.

Blown a fuse or something and not know what to do. mmphs. And it was connected to fridge outlet. That got blown. Moved plug over. Probably cause another set to blow by doing that. None of the fuse switches were tripped so I can't "fix" but flipping to on position. Hall light, kitchen light, fridge were all cut off from power.

An update on my harrowing experience with power outage, fluctuating power . . .

Last night I experienced power outage in one section of the apartment that refused to be fixed by flipping of fuse switches. I do not recall if last night the rest of the apartment went out at any period of time, though probably did.

I was woken this morning by the sudden lack of sound. It is strange how that can happen, you get used to the ac being on, and other sounds connected with electricity powered stuff. Then the sudden absence. For the rest of the apartment had suddenly, right then, lost power, to join the other already dead part of the apt. Then it turned back on again. Ten, twenty minutes later it turned off for about 30 seconds, maybe 15 but it felt ... horrifying.

I whimpered, as I do, on Twitter. The common response was that I needed to call super. It might be a long drawn out process so I wanted to take care of mail and laundry first. Since doing both would take about five minutes (I also wanted to eat breakfast and shower).

One of those occasions when I get rewarded for being somewhat shy/tentative. Went down and found a note on the apartment complex door. The hot water boiler had died the previous night. They know about it, they know half the complex is without power, and everyone is without water (which I wish I had known about before I decided to take a shower and found myself confronted, from the hot water tap, with the waters of the arctic, piped directly to me at no extra charge).

The sign is down now and while slow to get warm the hot water pipe does now produce something vaguely resembling hot water. And the whole apartment appears to be powered now.

Hi all! Hope yer weekend was super!

So I've not written a weekend update in, well, weeks. 'course, that's still only a page back. What is everyone doing?

It's SL8B time, which always takes up a lot of my energy and time. This year was no exception. Here's what my main build looks like, done for the Bay City Alliance.

And I also did work on the Second Life Children build, a-course.

If ya feel so compelled, you can read more about 'em at http://marianne.secondlifekid.com/20...parts-of-sl8b/

Also this weekend, I spent time exploring Rizal. It's an old, old SL region, just east of the Ahern Welcome Area. For years, it had fallen into disuse and decay -- but no no more. This is a build that is worth your time, and is best with friends. Check it out. I doubt you'll be disappointed.

Finally, it is Summer, so I am doing my fireworks shows on Livingtree again C'mon down f'r them on Saturdays at 8!

An that's it f'r now. How about the rest of ya? What are y'all doin?

EDIT: And this is why I don't much do these anymore. Killed the thread. Again. ::sigh::

/ me watches the tumbleweeds skitter by.

It's not just me, is it? This place -- I mean SCII generally -- really has got pretty quiet of late, hasn't it?

Has there been a mass migration somewhere?
