Default NC - Religion Edition

Nobody Cares - Religion Edition...

Guess it could come in handy?

Do you believe in God? If so, which one? If not, why? How do you feel about organized religion? Are you part of one of these branches of organized religion?

How's that for a start?

Eh, not really. I wouldn't change how I live my life if there were one, religion doesn't affect my morality. I think most organized religion can be dangerous (too tired to go into detail at the moment).

Do you believe in God?

Yes.

If so, which one? If not, why?

A one, one, as in a universal spirit thingie, but one that is at the same time, God.

How do you feel about organized religion?

Not too crazy about being much of a part of it now, but it serves a good purpose.

Are you part of one of these branches of organized religion?

Yes, Christian.

No. Organized religion is...organized. I was raised a Mormon (sorry!!) Stopped going to church at 12 after many fights with my parents. ( who are also not Mormon anymore)

Nope. Raised Jewish, read up on tons of religions right around the time of my Bar Mitzvah (13), asked myself "Which one of them is right?", and the only answer I could come up with that my brain was comfortable with was "None of them". I've been pretty happy with that ever since.

I was raised Catholic. Did not go to Catholic school (because there weren't any near me). My mom and extended family do not know my feelings on religion.

Ha! Maybe I should have put it in Under the Bridge... You'll have to excuse me, I've been a bit sleep deprived and stressed lately! But yeah, you can tell us how you really feel about religion. I just posted those questions to get the thread started.

It's cool I was making a jab at Lucy for his quip in the other thread. It was meant to be funny. I should have referenced the original remark, my bad.

Carry on.

I tried to believe in God, I really did. I did a lot of reading, I studied with Catholics, Jews, Muslims, and a Wiccan or two. I finally figured out that not only do I not believe in God, I don't believe in any sort of Force or Tao or anything. It's all just starstuff. And I'm totally fine with that.

Jewish by birth and connected with my heritage in many ways but, religious? Most certainly not. Any little shred of believing is more from the traditions I grew up with and even those were minimal since my family are reform Jews. My dad was't even bar mitzvahed, his family couldn't afford it and, frankly from what I understand, were a bunch of socialists so I don't think they were running to put him into Hebrew school :P

An atheist wakes up in a fancy hotel room. He's wondering where he is, when a man in a black suit enters the room.

The man says, "Hi, my name is Lucifer, welcome to Hell. If you want anything, you can just think about it and ring the bell on the table. Enjoy your stay."

The atheist gets up and rings the bell. Immediately two hot girls enter the room, ready to do a threesome. The atheist thinks "Wow, that's impressive."

He says to Lucifer, "I guess I was wrong about theism during my time on Earth. I always imagined hell would be way more vicious than this."

Lucifer points at a window with a curtain in front of it and says, "Take a look outside."

The atheist lifts the curtain a bit and sees millions of people burning in flames and suffering eternal pain. He says, "That's more like what I've imagined!"

Lucifer answers with a shrug, "Well, that's the Christian section of Hell and that's what they want. You don't even want to see the Islamic section!"

When I see my family and friends struggling with decisions all while fussing and worrying about God frowning on it or going to hell, I can't help but feel....free. What a burden that must be. My aunt talks of enlightenment when she talks about her Mormon religion. I feel enlightened. It's nice.

Yes

The Christian God

How do you feel about organized religion?
Depends on which one, but generally I think that in any large group of people are certain percentage of them are bound to be assholes. Jesus pretty much predicted that when He told the parable of the wheat and the tares.

Are you part of one of these branches of organized religion?

I saw somewhere on the great big internets that the girl on the top wasn't too happy about being compared to the girl on the bottom. She didn't think it was at all the same thing.

That's good news. Both of their fatuousnessesses bask so much in the glow of their respective religious righteousness that any chagrin that either suffers is a step in the right direction: towards understanding the others viewpoint.

It's a place for random thoughts and feelings on religion. Similar to Nobody Cares. What's so hard to understand about that?
