Default Defiance

I looked for a thread about this, but didn't find one... which I find weird.

Anyway... I'm thinking about getting this Defiance game (for PC) and I'm wondering if anyone else is planning on getting this.
I've been playing in the Beta and Alpha events and it's a lot of fun.
Of course, it doesn't hurt that the TV series and the video game are interconnected, which I find pretty fucktastic.

I think the character creator should be more in-depth, but I've been happy enough with it.

Oh... apparently they also have a "Season Pass" for $39.99 (PS3 & PC, 3200 MS points on Xbox) which gets you the next 5 DLCs.
So basically, pay ahead of time and get 5 for the price of 4.
Not sure if I want to grab that as well.

But yeah...

Heard of this a while back. It's an interesting idea, interconnecting the show with the game. It would be cool if in-game happenings influence the show's plot. But I probably won't get it. My sci-fi gaming dollars belong to Chris Roberts

Oh wait... it does!

Defiance MMO Will Heavily Influence TV Series

Quote:
The executive talks about an episode that focuses on a nanite contagion and the efforts of one doctor on the show to stop its spread.

Beliaeff adds, “So she reaches out to her counterpart in the game in San Francisco and now the players in the game have a series of missions that they can fulfill, getting reagents an trying to help the doctor in San Francisco create the cure.”

Because the Syfy Defiance series will air one episode a week, players will have to work within that time frame in order to complete their missions and get a reward based on how the world evolved.

Yeah, I've been in Alpha, but also got an invite for this weekends Beta.
And yup, I also noticed the lift of the NDA. Yay!
(Now, if I can just figure out if I'm getting screenshots when I click PrtScrn and if so, where the hell are they going?)

I still think the voice of EGO needs to be louder and they would do well to have more choices in the character creator, but overall it's a lot of fun.
I've tried all 4 archetypes and I think I like Survivalist the best, with Machinist coming in 2nd.
(I played a bit last night and did my first Episode Mission, which was helping the two main characters from the show in fighting a small arkfall.)

I just played almost two hours of it so far it's much better than I thought it would be. Kind of reminds me a bit of Tabula Rasa.

I haven't played Tabula Rasa, but I'm assuming that's a good comparison.
I've spent my gaming time today in a couple things... first, I (re-)made a survivalist in Defiance, but had to log out before finishing the intro area.
The rest of my time (so far) has been spent in the Neverwinter beta, where I was able to hit lvl 10 before I had to log out of that.

I'll probably get back to Defiance later tonight.
(Although, I may stab myself in the eye when I have to do the KTAM mission again!)

Well Tabula Rasa tanked so I don't know how much I'd want to be shooting for that comparison.

Hey, what a coinky dink.
I'm heading off to play a little Defiance right now!

(I haven't pre-ordered yet, but will within the next door or two.)
(Also, I was trying to figure out if I should join as me (Kick) or another sign in... but I think I've decided just to go with Kick, just in case anyone here (or SLU) plays.)

I don't think it's completely comparable to Tabula Rasa the little I played the Defiance beta. It's more like what Tabula Rasa should have been more like. It was one of it not the first MMO to have events like RIFT and Warhammer Online does.

I thought that the beta was over this last weekend since the game launches next Tuesday.

It was, er is, er was, er... you know what I mean.
I'm also in the ongoing Alpha, so I've been able to play for a couple weeks.
Not sure when it ends, but I know I'll be missing the launch. blah
(We're heading out on vacation tomorrow night and won't be back for a week, so I'll be several days behind when I do get to start.)

Apparently there is no head start like in most MMOs so it starts for everyone at 12:01 AM Eastern so you should only be behind just a few days. Usually that is a good thing for an MMO since quite a few of them have some problems the first week.

True, but after having invested all the time I have in Beta and Alpha, it'd be cool to be their for launch.
It'll be at least a 5 day delay for me... not horrible really, just... yarg.

At least I'll be here for the premiere of the TV show.

Where did you pre-order it from? Through Steam you can now get a 20% discount.

I thought about getting the season pass but what if all I want is three of the DLC? Then I would have overpaid for it.

The game is working well now. I still needs a few things to be done but it had a pretty smooth launch week. There are still things that need to be done but Trion seems to do a good job of fixing things quickly like they did for Rift.

I'm going to check out the MMO tomorrow. Seems like a super cool concept!

Same here. Just setting up my PS3 again and saw it on the download stuff.

So sell me on it. Looks like a post-apocalyptic themed MMO with a story line that ties into a TV show? Some kind of space alien invaders?

I ordered it through Trion... I think.
(Granted, it doesn't matter much now that we're past launch. )

Good point about the DLC, but I figured fuck it... $40 for $50 worth of DLC might be worth it, but without a monthly sub fee, I don't feel so bad about spending the extra cash to save cash... assuming I would've spent the larger cash amount anyway.

First, as far as I know, it won't be cross platform... although I saw somewhere that they did have a working version of it, so maybe at some point?
I have it for PC, which is probably the best version.

And yeah, you pretty much have it... except not all the aliens are invaders and there are multiple alien races.
Some of the aliens work with human forces to fight against baddie aliens (and humans?).
And yes, some events that happen on the show will influence what happens in the game.
Currently, there is an "Episode Mission 1" in-game which involves a couple of the main characters from the show.
Also, some things that happen in the game can influence the show, from what I've read anyway.
The example I read had to do with a virus getting out and people in the game having a week to complete mission stuff in order for it to get cured in the show.
I'm not sure exactly how that'll work, but it sounds fuck-awesome!

My biggest complaints right now are that the character creator should be more extensive and WHY THE FUCK ISN'T THERE A SCREENSHOT BUTTON?!?!?
(I may have to finally install FRAPS.)

By the way, anyone who has the game (or is getting it) there's a "My Ego" page on the Defiance website.
On that page you can enter codes to get stuff.

If you'd like a list of codes to use instead of trying to hunt them all down, I found this post on the Defiance forums that has 130 codes (you only need 120): http://forums.defiance.com/showthrea...odes-*Updated*

(I'm guessing third party or something?)

Changing weapons = Press Q or scroll mouse wheel (at least that works for me)

No monthly subscription and 5 DLC packs coming this year.
New content will be free, but if you pay for DLC packs you get extra shit... like more races to choose from when creating a character.

Plus, the show looks cool and it's kinda sweet to be involved with a game that's in the same active universe as the show, where they can effect each other.

Besides all that, it's fun to play!

Thanks. I'll have to use q as I don't have scroll wheel.

I recall the early easy mission of pressing 1 for various things. I thought it was l. Took awhile of running around like moron slamming finger on l with nothing happening.

Re: pic. One of the menu settings allows you to take game out of full screen and put in window. I have ... I don't know what it is called. Um, scissors, can cut image to save as png. I can't do that in full screen mode.(well, l opens inventory so it must have been I I thought it was and was pressing)

I'll have to try PrtScn in windowed mode and see if that works. Thanks!

Nah, you've got to be at least 20 or 30.
You hit 10 just by doing the EGO part of the tutorial.
I think I got a boost from entering Arkhunter coeds on my MyEgo page on the Defiance site.

Sign in to the website and hit up your page with codes for a bunch of perks.
There's more than enough codes to fill out the entire available perks at the link I left earlier in the thread.
(For easy clickin: This link.)

I also peeked in over at SLU for their Defiance thread and noticed a clan was started.
I think it was [SLU Nomads]?
I'll have to check again when I log back in over at SLU to comment in their thread... eventually.

The biggest problem with the PC version of the game is that the UI was made for consoles. Character creations needs quite a bit of work since there aren't many options and the two current races have no difference between them besides the cosmetic. You do unlock different clothes through missions but they are only for the body and head.

I started it at EGO rating 50, after the tutorial, since I pre-purchased it through Steam and got the pre-purchase items. I also did the Arkfall codes thing and got some extra things from it. One cool thing about the game is that you get a vehicle after less than an hour of play. More can be bought and can also be gotten as mission rewards. The Arkfall codes thing also includes two vehicles that can be used right after the tutorial. I started off with five since one was included with the pre-order and three more with the pre-purchase items.

Weapons and vehicle are leveled up with use. Weapons can also be modified to make them look different as well as give more damage and other attributes such as reducing reload times.

Yeah I started the "SLU Nomads" clan but found out that if I create another character I'm not automatically put in it. There are only two of so far me and Seyla Warden at SLU. The character I'm currently using isn't in the clan. The game does have built-in voice chat but I don't think it works well at the moment.

my global handle is "nomad682" which means that no matter how many characters I create they can be contacted by it but so far I really see no reason to have more than one unless you want to try out each of the four main powers and the perks that off shoot of those.

Below is my current character but I now have a better sniper rifle:

Supposedly early this next week a major patch is coming out with another one planned for two weeks later.

Correction: After going in-game I found out that I'm now a clan of one. I think I'll abandon it and start a new on on the character I'm going to use the most.

You have a good point about the UI, but I'm used to it by now.
For me the biggest issue is character creation, which should really be more expansive to avoid a bunch of similar looking characters.
(Although, I haven't seen anyone who looks like me... yet.)
I'm also keeping in mind that there will be new races to play in the DLC coming later this year (all 5 are supposed to be released before the end of the year).

As for the patch, it's: Patch 1.010 - Sharks (in winter solstice)
Click through for the patch notes... it was too long to comfortably post here.

And for the clan... I see what you did there. (BAN)

Hello there, clan-mate.

At least, I think I accepted properly.
I couldn't figure out how to switch chat from Area to Clan... nothing seemed to work.

Just got an E-mail that says that after the premiere of the TV show tonight that there will be online a video showing how the game and show connect. That video starts at 10 PM Central.
