Pretty accurate kid. It was boring at times even at its release, but that is for effect. And remember, it was pre Star Wars which dramatically change the movie experience. All pre a Star Wars movies seem slow and tend to drag.

But even considering that, there were Wow moments.

Star Wars was very entertaining, but it was also a huge disappointment with respect to verisimilitude. Wings on space vehicles that never enter the atmosphere, huge roars of sound associated with shots of space fighters and explosions. Kubrick kept the silence and reflected the stateliness of moving large objects in free fall in our present technology. Much of the way in which he kept the story moving was keeping the audience somewhat ill-informed about what was going on between persons: there were very few character sources of expositions of plot. This created a tension in the viewer, who was constantly busy trying to figure out what was actually going on and what the meaning of everything was. Right from the beginning, the movie announced hidden meanings in everything and kept the pressure up, relentlessly. Seeing it on the small screen, even as big as they are now, is insufficient for the movie. We saw it first on a Cinerama screen, about 100 feet long comprising about 120 degrees of arc. Breathtaking.

Further, Armstrong had landed on the moon earlier that year and then, the technology, the attainments of humans in space, all seemed very likely by 2001.

I won't say in public, but if you're serious I can put you in touch.

I wish I was, but it's not so easy to go gallivanting across the country when you have a wife and a kid.
Maybe someday I could do it, just not actually in the cards right now.

Although, I am trying to remember what state he lives in... I swear I knew it once upon a time.

I think the forum has trouble with mobile links; just replace that "m" in the URL with a "www" and see if that fixes it.

Oh! I see what the problem is. Let me help you out so you can stop this kinda thing from happening again.

First, I have to explain why my trick works so it makes sense to you.

Here's a YouTube video!

Now pay attention to the actual address of that video. All YouTube videos have an address that's the same format - there's the http-blah-youtube-dot-com-slash part, followed by watch?v= followed by a kind of hash of letters and numbers and the occasional punctuation mark. That random-looking hash is what's unique to each video. So in my video the part after youtube-dot-com-slash is watch?v=sQS1ImFYoa0

In the video you posted, the part after the youtube-dot-com-slash is watch?v=FdizL4on-Rc&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DFdizL4on-Rc It starts out fine, but there's a lot of extra stuff in there that doesn't belong; that stuff is occasionally added when you copy the video URL out of an email or from a web page link or something. The extra stuff is usually instructions for your internet browser on what size the video box should be or what kind of "related videos" links to put up or whatever. Your browser can read these instructions just fine, but they only confuse the forum software that's trying to turn the URL into a YouTube video. So whenever you post a video, you've got to make sure the URL is pared down if necessary to just that format like I talked about above.

In your video's URL, here's the trick to remember: no video hash ever includes a & symbol. So when you look at the URL, you automatically know that everything including and after the & is unnecessary. So just highlight all that mess and delete it. You end up with watch?v=FdizL4on-Rc (after your youtube-dot-com-slash, of course). That's your URL and that's what you post!

There's occasionally a rare kind of trouble where extra stuff will end up in the URL between your watch?v= and the hash, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it, if ever.

Hope this helps!

Ok, what USED to work was I just clicked "email video" then cut and pasted it into SCmkII and it parsed. YouTube changed something.

Kick asked what state Mulch lived in and I tried to post L. L. Cool J's "going back to Cali"

Thanks guys, it's good to know.
Just in case I ever make it back out there.

Or if we move to the west coast.
(It's something we're considering... although Washington, but it's much closer than New Jersey!)

You should totally move to Washington! It's awesome here! Tons of nature, great microbrews, great coffee, legal pot, good schools for Kick Jr. What's not to love?

It certainly sounds like there's a ton of awesome shit there!
Which reminds me, I wanted to ask y'all about Washington and get a feel for what it's like from people who actually live there (or know the area well enough).

But, instead of barreling off the tracks in this thread...
I made this one!
