Default R.I.P. Boliver Oddfellow

I am sad to bring the news that Drew Stein, AKA Boliver Oddfellow in Second Life, passed away this afternoon.

Per an announcement on Facebook from June Peoples, AKA Quirky McArdle in SL:

Quote:
Born September 22, 1961. Died 2:22 p.m. June 18, 2011 of complications from sarcoidosis.
Boliver was part of one of the earliest development companies in SL, Dream Builders, which created the original Dublin sim for Ham Rambler in March of 2006. He formed Infinite Vision shortly thereafter (later Involve). Among his many accomplishments was the construction of a sim for The Infinite Mind radio show, which hosted a grand opening event featuring author Kurt Vonnegut Jr. and musician Suzanne Vega in avatar form, and later the development of a five sim complex for Dell Computers, as well as NBC, General Electric, the American Cancer Society, and The Weather Channel.

I remember hanging with Drew in RL at the second SLCC in San Francisco as well as with him and June in Chicago. He will be greatly missed.

The May 30, 2006 issue of the Metaverse Messenger featured Boliver as Resident of the Week. I am pleased to reprint that article here in his memory.

ETA: Annora was before he met June/Quirky and she stole his heart. My heart is saddened to think of her loss.

Lexington —
Lexington resident Andrew Stein told his loved ones he was blessed to have survived the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. Stein, 49, kept that mentality until the day he died, Saturday, June 18, from complications due to pulmonary sarcoidosis, an inflammatory disease he contracted from the debris released into the Manhattan air on that infamous day.
Stein was scheduled to be in a meeting on the 101st floor of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, but overslept by a half-hour and emerged from the subway just in time to see the second plane hit the tower.
“Drew was never late for anything. He was compulsively on time for every appointment he had in his life” said Stein’s partner June Peoples.
Stein was injured by a piece of falling debris but walked “halfway up the island” with a fractured kneecap to catch a train at Penn Station to the hospital, Peoples said.
“He always counted lucky himself to have escaped death on that horrible day,” Peoples said. “How ironic it is that he didn’t really escape death at all. It got him 10 years later.”
