Default Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic now F2P

Less than one year after it first launched, BioWare's Star Wars: The Old Republic has been reworked into a free-to-play experience. Without paying you'll be able to create a character of any class and play through the entire story experience from level 1 to 50.

I'm trialing "the Old Republic" right now; I'll let you know what I think after I've played it for a bit.

I was under Preferred Status when I went back and started playing it some again last week. Today I decided to re-subscribe and did the 60 day non-recurring option.

I gave this game a fair go, but it lost my interest. I played it all the way up until this one planet - I forget which planet it is, but there's a space station above it and you've got to get an inoculation there before you're allowed to go down to the planet.

Well, you can't get the inoculation until you've made a certain character level. So since I skipped all the "HEROIC" and those types of sites while I was playing, I went all the way back to the starting planet and started soloing them, ha! But, eventually I gave up when I made it back to Tatooine.

The game is just too grind-y. I'm supposed to be like this diplomat class of Jedi; but the entire game is nothing but "Go there and KILL EVERYTHING, and come back and tell me you've KILLED EVERYTHING" missions. That's seriously it. Every once in a while you've got to Go There and KILL EVERYTHING and Pick Up Special Item and KILL EVERYTHING ON THE WAY BACK as you bring it to (insert sci-fi name here); but it's not different enough to keep my interest.

P2, I believe it's Shadowlands.
I haven't been in for awhile (like, months), but do look forward to getting back in at some point and playing again.
It's just that Defiance has my attention at the moment... and GW2 is calling me to play also, so not sure which I'll hit up first when I play something other than Defiance.

As far as I know, our guild "Cult of The Black Orchid" is still active.

I was pretty active in Defiance til it started acting up on me.

The guild still is there but not sure how active anybody is in it. I believe though that one of my characters can invite people to the guild but if there are not many that are going to be active in it there is no point in joining or even staying in it.

I don't recall what server I started on (it's installed on my desktop, and I'm on my laptop atm) but I'll check this afternoon. I haven't gotten that far yet. I believe Wakinyan the smuggler is only level 3 or so.

They consolidated the servers and currently there are only 8. When I went back in I had to change a couple of my characters names because of that.

In process of downloading. This may or may not take forever. I think it is telling me that I only have 100,000,000 trillion MB left to download.

eta: here I was all excited it was almost finished and . . . it's downloading again? hmms. is confused. Now I only have 12 GB left to download.

Yeah, it takes forever to download-patch-download-patch-ad nauseum.
Even though I haven't been playing, I do take time to patch here and there so I don't have to wait forever if I get in the mood to play.

Holy fuck that was a nice little opening. And I haven't even done anything yet except walk into a bar where nude women were dancing, change the change to some old man, and listen to him. Apparently I prefer old men.

Never mind, I couldn't read maps. heh. hmm. I just killed some guys brother. Well, not directly, just by not helping. Well, literally by being paid not to help. Then I asked the brother to pay me for my work. heh

then I killed some kids father in front of him.

I might be evil. hmm.

gah. I hate when this happens. I've accidently popped into mouselook view. Anyone know how to exit it? None of the tricks I've picked up from other games seem to be fixing my issue. Now I accidently removed ability to use arrows to move (and or removed ability to move, assumed could still move with keyboard settings, but didn't try before exiting). None of the preference menus seemed to include anything about mouselook view. mmphs. I hate being in mouselook. really really hate it. (weird, I know).

Not sure on the mouselook thing.
If you have a scrollwheel, try scrolling out?

Hold on, I'm going to login and see if I can figure it out...

ETA: Scrolling in gave me first-person, but I still had keyboard control.
I saw online people saying you could exit with the right mouse button?

I don't have a scroll wheel

WoW uses home and end let's to zoom in and out, bug that didn't work. I yeah, but I prefer arrow key movement, lost when tried many things to try to exit mouselook. not going to be able to try until tonight to fix.

Getting stuck in mouselook is one of those deal breakers. I won't be able to continue if I can't get out of mouselook.

I would join you there but I'm not a fan of PvP servers. Besides I like the Dark Side better.

Oh, I forgot about that part. Yeah, I don't like PVP servers either, so I'm on The Shadowlands.

So far I have 4 female evil critters (one each class), and 3 female good critters (one of all but Jedi Counsler). Ismezu is my highest Republic critter, and is a smuggler (level 11). Suskara is my first character, and highest, at level 15. Got my first ship. She Imperial Agent.

eta: I don't have the issue I had with WoW wherein I found it hard to actually "start". I have 7 characters because I read on the forum about someone who had one each class, both genders. Was gender thread (I think), and regarding voice ability of the actor. Figured I'd have a look see every once in a while.

All this SWTOR talk has me wanting to go back in and start playing again.
My main, Frenn'Zi, is an Inquisitor (level 33, I think).
I also have a smuggler at around level 5(?) named, Thunderhead.

Then there's Slae, my female Jedi, who requires a name change that I haven't gotten around to yet.

But I want more now.

I started over on the RP-PvE server The Ebon Hawk with two very low level characters; Dargothe - Sith Warrior and Grayston - Imperial Agent. Which are my two favorite classes in the game.

My character is Cody Tebaldi; a Jedi consular and IIRC I'm around level 26. Been a little while.
