Wait wait...you can pay for the game now, and download and install it on your computer; but you can't play it until it "officially" launches? What the heck kind of bass-ackwards logic is that? How's that even work?

You don't get out much, do you?

I am downloading it as we speak -- well, type. 7.6 GB.

And you're just going to let it sit there in your hard drive for the next two months?

Preload encryption? I preorder games all the time often for 10% off and preload days before playing.

Affirmative. Hell, with my download speeds it may take two months to download it.

LOL!

I understood the point of preordering when you were getting a physical product and preordering meant you'd get it as soon as it came out rather than having to endure lines and stores running out of stock. I totally get that you're actually avoiding a hassle there.

But...pre-ordering a game nowadays when games are instantly downloadable? What do you avoid? There's no lines, there's no out-of-stock - you can get it literally the instant it's released. You don't save any time - it takes just as long to download and install now as it would on release day. What a completely useless gimmick.

Please please tell me at least that it doesn't cost you guys extra to "preorder"...

No, not at all; in fact, we're actually getting it for free in return for signing an agreement to keep our WoW accounts for a year, which is something we had every intention of doing anyway.

And as far as "instantly downloadable," ain't no such thing as instant out here on the wild windswept prairie. Or wherever it is that we live.

Yeah, it wasn't really imperative that I download it this early, but I just liked the idea of getting it done.

If you wait and download it the day it comes out, the download queues at Blizzard can be really incredibly long. I bought a mount a month ago and had to wait in a queue of 139,000 other people before I could get on their store to buy it.

That's usually true, but not always. I bought the Celestial Steed the day it became available, and I got it in half the time it said it was going to take.
