He's been opening a store since 2009

Hey, it hasn't been THAT long.
It's only been since (early) 2010.

;D

Since I started the store, I've moved once or twice.
Currently on the outskirts of "downtown" Zindra (in Fenfarg).

Ok, so, time for another round!
I've got another 3 new beers tonight.

Let's start of with some class with this first beer:

(Alc. 8.9%)
(Goose Island - Gillian)

Smell: Honey and oak waft forward first. Then a slight wet hay funk rides through on a blanket of white wine notes. Hidden throughout, white pepper squares this circle.

Taste: Faint honey and oak notes, followed with laid back wet hay funk. Finishing with white pepper heat on tongue, white wine warmth in chest.

Overall, a very interesting beer thing. It drinks closer to champagne than it does to beer, what with the tiny bubbles and delicate flavor notes. A good choice for introducing people to the funkier side of beers.

And really, I only had one choice of who to post to go with this drink...

And onward to #2...

(Alc. 6%)
(Breckenridge Brewery - Ophelia)

Smells: Dank hops slam my nose, pine and grapefruit just storming out of the gate. For some reason, I just got a sense of grape seed. A wheat-laden spirit ghosting through it all.

Tastes: Strong citrus/pine up front. Somewhat bitter hops curls the edges neatly. Wheat crushed with grape seeds sets the late-blooming foundation.

Overall, a surprisingly smooth and tasty brew! I really didn't expect this solid of a flavor from this one, but hot damn... that's a good beer!

And so here we are.
First two down and on to #3!

The beer:

(Alc. 10.7%)
(Lakefront - Brandy Barrel Aged Cherry Lager)

The smell: Dark cherry brandy scents, immediately (almost simultaneously) followed quickly by a malty sweetness. With oak rounding out this brew.

The taste: Dark cherry walks strong with malty sweetness. Oak barrel follows, with a brandy inspired chest warmth at the end.

Overall, a smooth and tasty brew from Lakefront. Mostly sweet with a small (yeast-y?) bite. Easily a sipping beer and not a thing to just gulp down. It would probably pair well with some kind of exotically prepared steak or white fish.

And a hawt pic to end the beer run...

Sure thing!
And you're right, they were all good!
Although, I'd say Ophelia is the most easily drinkable of the 3.

Like, I could slowly pound Ophelia all night long.

O.o

My downstairs neighbor is named Ophelia, I don't think her husband would approve.

I haven't been able to have a drink in years because of medication I was on. It's so nice to be able to enjoy a beer in the summer again. Or just get fucking drunk once and a while.

Speaking of drinking, I'll be back later tonight (in a few hours) to start leaving reviews.

I know I used to drink more often, but things change (like Lil Kick getting older).
Now I'm lucky if I get to do it once a week.
(Which, I suppose, is an alright frequency.)

Either way, I'm running out in a couple hours to choose my victims for the night!

Well, that sucked pretty hard.

Get to liquor store, be picky and find two awesome sounding brews.
Go to counter, wait for price.
Hear $70+ for two large bottles.
Tell him nevermind, I'll start over.

Keep finding tasty sounding beers, but they're either past their 'drink by' date or were brewed last year.
Finally say fuck it, I'll just grab a 4 pack of something new instead.
Forget to find it in cooler, get home, have to wait for beer to cool down.

shit on me

(Back in a little while to start by imbibing.)

Alrighty, finally ready to get started... an hour later than I like to, but whatcha gonna do?

So, here we go with the lone review of the night.
(Unless I decide to come back and give another review after being a couple in.)

The beer:

(Alc. 9.7%)
(Yard's - Cape of Good Hope)

Smellin: Grapefruit greets me first. Carried by slightly bitter, but not harsh, hops. Perhaps a touch of grape seed.

Tastin: Sweet at first, then a peppery follow through. Slightly bitter hops takes over for the second half, curling under the tongue as it goes. Grapefruit barely present, but lends it's taste throughout.

Overall, not the best offering from Yard's, not bad either. More hoppy bitterness than I personally like, but it fits decently in this profile. It has a nice, slightly creamy, mouthfeel. Not strongly recommended, but I wouldn't turn it down either.

Well, fuck... it's been 2 weeks!
A bunch of shit has gone down, but some good stuff too.
Like Lil Kick starting Kindergarten (and loving it)!

I also almost died.
Well, my D&D character, that is.
Turned out the magical portal in the magical inter-planary shortcut wasn't certain death, it just dropped me in a different spot from high above.
I hurt my back, but I was a brown bear at the time so it wasn't so bad.

ANYway... I think I should get to the drinkin part of the night!
So, a couple new ones to try out.
I think I'm going to start with the IPA, then move on to the pumpkin brew.

With that in mind, may I present the first beer of the night...

(Alc. 7.6%)
(Long Trail Brewing - Limbo IPA)

Smell - Pine with a slight whiff of white pepper. Then some pithy pineapple/grapefruit body.

Taste - Soft resinous pine holding hands with pithy grapefruit. A little white pepper heat in the back end. Moments of something fruitier that I can't place, but I swear makes me think of bubble gum... just for a moment, when exhaling through my nose as I drink.

Overall, a hearty IPA that doesn't get too thick. I enjoy the heat and feel it balances the pith and slight bitterness fairly well. The only downfall (for me) is a bit more of a bitter bite in the last moments, in the throat.
(I also didn't have enough time to chill this, so it's almost room temp.)

I'm done with that one, on to what will hopefully be a wonderful start to the pumpkin beer season!

Beer #2:

(Alc. 8.6%)
(Southern Tier - Warlock)

Smell: Dark, browned, spiced pumpkin pie. That's it, just beautiful, drool-worthy pumpkin pie in all it's glories.

Taste: Dark, browned, spiced pumpkin pie... as a stout beer. Somewhat bitter compared to pie. But mostly, it's pumpkin pie in a beer.

Overall, fuck yes. Fuck. Yes. Gives Elysium a run for it's money. Definitely have to compare the two at some point this season!!

Aaaand... Pics!

Those guys are awesome, lol!

I would drink some beer right now if it weren't the middle of the day.
And if I didn't still have a handful of responsibilities to take care of, that all include driving.

But that's a great song!!

I even posted their song "Caffeine" back on page 20, in this very thread.

Well, it's been a week.
You know what that means... BEER!

Got a couple pumpkin brews tonight, but will break them up with a non-pumpkin ale between them.
So, without any further ado...

Beer #1:

(Alc. 9.0%)
(Flying Dog- The Fear)

Smells: Malt, pumpkin, and spices co-mingle as they waft to my nostrils. A hint of vanilla is sneaking around, while the cracker backbone stands firm, but somewhat camouflaged.

Tastes: First, raisin malt & spices. Pumpkin whispers throughout. Slight bitterness comes forward as the end nears.

Overall, not a bad brew. Not a ton of pumpkin flavor, but not a bad beer either. Thick and rich with hearty warmth.

And now we're off to the non-pumpkin beer...

(Alc. 8.0%)
(Lakefront - Bridge Burner Special Reserve)

Smellin: Sweet raisin, malt and biscuits. A whisper of pine in the background. A floral spirit tip toes throughout.

Tastin: Sweet raisins up first, holding hands with biscuit backbone. Soft pine and floral notes throughout. A bitter nibble curls under the tail end.

Overall, sweeter than expected, but not bad. Kinda boozy, kinda smoky. Decent beer, if a bit too sweet.

And finally, beer #3!

We can haz moar pumpk!n?
We can!
See?
Here it is...

(Alc. 10%)
(Heavy Seas - Greater Pumpkin (2015))

Smellin: Pumpkin pie spices greet me first. Browned crust rounds out the Feng Shui. A lacing of spices meanders throughout.

Tastin: Boozy pumpkin pie. A fleeting, spicy, burn on the back end. Somewhere in the distant aftertaste, some wet hay funk.

Overall, It's an ok brew. Not the top of my list, but not the worst pumpkin beer either. I wouldn't say you shouldn't drink it, but I would say there's better pumpkin brews if that's what you're after.

Ok, finally back to drinking after a 2 week dry spell!
(Not that two weeks is much of a dry spell, but it felt longer than that, so... nyah.)

So, a couple pumpkin brews tonight and a fruity IPA.
Let's get things started wiiiith...

Beer #1:

(Alc. 8%)
(Schlafly - Pumpkin Ale)

Smell: Dark spiced pumpkin pie. First, browned pumpkin quickly followed by spices. Bready crust rounding out the profile, with a waft of booziness at times.

Taste: Boozy warmth presents the pumpkin. Spices fill out the body. A ghost of pie crust creeps by in the last moments.

Overall, it's alright. The booze overpowers the pumpkin, but not too harshly. Definitely not the top of my pumpkin beer list. Probably not as good as The Greater Pumpkin above.

I know it's not a nude pic, but she's still a hottie inside and out!

And now on to the long step sideways where we find...

Beer #2:

(Alc. 6.3%)
(Bolero Snort - TVB (Tropical Cream Pop IPA))

Smells: Sweet, grassy hops. Fruity pineapple, with a slight bitter curl. And just a hint of vanilla.

Tastes: Fairly bitter hops jumps right out. Pineapple pith undercurrent. A hint of grass... somewhere.

Overall, this is an IPA. Not as fruity as I expected, but a good solid IPA for those who favor this style. Certainly more bitter than I like!

Ok, so, I was totally not a fan of that TVB.
Dumped almost half of it, just too bitter for my tastes.
Especially on a pumpkin night!

So, here we are, moving on to...

Beer #3:

(Alc. 8.8%)
(Cigar City - Good Gourd)

Smellin: Soft, dark pumpkin. Spices and pie crust. A touch of vanilla in the distance.

Tastin: Soft, creamy pumpkin pie. Spices and vanilla trotting along, hand in hand. And just a faint burn, late in the palate.

Overall, a tasty brew, but not as overtly pumpkin as I was hoping for. A bit odd... but can't quite place why. Too much vanilla? Too much of an alcohol taste, but without being "boozy"? Not sure, but... it's probably the best of a less than stellar night.

As for the pic...
I'm matching the "it's pumpkin, but not quite right" vibe here...

Hey! Ho! Whaddaya know!
It's time for more beer!
(I know, it's terrible that this has become bi-weekly. It's like I have some kind of life outside the internet or something!)
Anyshitsngiggles...

Let's get it on!

First (and only pumpkin of the night) beer:

(Alc. 6.5%)
(O'Fallen - Jack-O-Latte)

Smell: Light pumpkin pie greets me first. As pie is wont to do, it's quickly followed by pie crust.

Taste: Creamy pumpkin pie. Ever so slightly bitter far on the back end. A bit thin in the body for a stout, but it's ok man.

Overall, a pretty nice pumpkin brew. No flavor jumps out to punch me or anything, just an easy going experience. Thinner than I generally like my stouts, but fairly expected so not an unwelcome surprise or anything. The bitter ghost in the back end is really faint. The lower alcohol content makes it a decent social drink for Autumn.

And now it's time to get serious.
Or maybe, unserious.
Point is, I'm graduating to a stronger beer now.

Beer #2:

(Alc. 10.4%)
(Georgetown Trading - James E Pepper 1776 (Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged))

Smellin: BAM! Rye whiskey jumps right out. Strong bready backbone. Raisin sweetness. Perhaps a touch of clove.

Tastin: Sweet & bready up front. Rye whiskey walks along with the forward flavor. A smoky soul throughout.

Overall, this is sweeter than I prefer. That being said, it embodies the flavor profile well. A bit more hops may have provided better balance, otherwise this is better as a carefully sipped brew.
