I saw there's an older thread about a similar topic, but it's fuck-old and most images are broken.
So, why not start a new one?
This whole thing is a transplant of the same topic being discussed in the "Miserable Men Shopping with Their Ladies" thread.
Sure, we could just chat about it there... the way guys shopping with their ladies might chat with other guys in the same situation... but it seemed like a fun thread to start.
SO...
here's (most of) my comment I was going to leave over in that other thread:

I did spoil myself a little bit for my first guitar.
Not that it was a thousand bucks or anything, more like three hundred and something.
Anyway, I found an "unboxing video" of the guitar I have.
(Towards the end, the black thing on the side with the glowing wings symbol is a tuner.)

My Mood:
My first guitar was an I-don't-know acoustic that my father brought home from the flea market this one time. It lasted longer than I suppose one might expect it to, because it was kinda cheap. But after I got my first job, I went to Guitar Center and bought a DR-100 Epiphone, which looked exactly like this:
I had that thing for years and years and I loved it! But when it came time to move, I couldn't bring it with me - I used almost all my money on shipping my necessary stuff and it would've cost extra to bring it on the train. So, I pawned it.
Sadly, right now I don't have any guitars.
In the other thread I posted my current dream guitar:
That kind of resonator guitar is called a "dobro", after the first company to make that style of guitar. Gibson owns the Dobro brand currently but aren't making any right this moment. However, lots of companies make resonator guitars - acoustic and electric. And you're right, they've got FREAKY-cool sound either way. The Resolectric is my yummy-want guitar, but even an acoustic would make me very very very very happy.
Dobros are often used for bluegrass music - where they're played laying on the performer's lap, which is interesting to me - but my style is definitely blues.
I have a DR-100! Exactly like that one, too. Actually, I gave it to our daughter Sheridan, but it's still in the family.
Apart from that, I can't really go all the way back to my first guitar and list them all... your computer would run out of RAM and crash. I think I have owned something like 27 guitars.
Currently, however, I have two:
Barney
Bordeaux
I had a red and white Precision bass that I called Boomer (as in Sooner) but I sold it. The aforementioned DR-100 was and is Brownie.

I don't have any pics handy, so general innerwebz pics will have to do for now.
I have one of these, though mine has been customized quite a bit. Her name is Ms. Eva, after my grandmother who helped me buy it. She passed before I got to repay her, so it has a lot of sentimental value...to me it's priceless.
DeArmond M75-T Blues Bird
My wife bought me this a few years back for my birthday. It plays like butter...
Fender American Deluxe HSS stratocaster, olympic pearl
Also have this here bass...
Also have an Ibanez Jr. with dual humbuckers that I bought for my kid, who has never played it. It has a super short scale, so you can shred like crazy. It's a fun little guitar.
I have been working so much that I haven't played in months. I played every single day for years...need to take some time to get back to it. Music is food for the soul, and mine sure is hungry lately.
Those are some sweet axes, man!
I hope you get to carve out a little time here and there to get your soul feeding on.
I need to get back to learning how to play guitar in the first place.
The girl I was getting lessons from got a DUI and couldn't come to my place for the lessons for months.
After that, she's been busy doing live shows and whatever... haven't seen her at all.
(And she still owes me several lessons, but it's cool... I don't think she set out to jip me.)
Plus, I have a guitar lesson thing pinned to my Start page which will help... if I ever get around to using it.
