My friend John Shirley made some marketing recommendations for me today, which I followed up on a bit [local mags, etc]. We'll see how that plays out, too.
So, yeah. Two days of Stuff I Hate To Do, under my belt. Tomorrow I will focus on Fun Stuff [I cut up a bunch of old jeans last week to make bags out of and will start doing that, I think].
Jen, do you realize you have the original of this one listed as $30,000? I think another one is also. Did you mean $3,000? Because I see other originals at $5,000 and $3,000.
Yeah, I should probably rectify that. Today is not the day [anxiety attacks- need to run away for a little while and ground], but thanks for the mention.
Currently working on three different things at once:
...making holiday goodies to send out in lieu of cards.
...doing some Perpetually Three LLC cogitating [biz stuff].
...and noodling over this "Hatchfund" crowd-sourcing thingie that I've signed up to do, in order to help finance the rest of the Cow Series.
The fibro makes my standard operating procedure of "day job" + "art job" too much for me to handle, so I've got to find new ways of paying for my paint habit. "Hatchfund" is a nonprofit so people can donate to my art-making funds AND claim it as tax-deductible. AND get a wee giftie from me in the process. Win/win/win.
This last thing being the one that's most on my mind. I had a talk with the Hatchfund lady re. all of this and she's urging me to get this up and going in the next week or so. Have to make a video too [bleah- hate having my picture taken, let alone being on a video].
I'm thinking signed postcards for people who can toss me 20-30, an 8x10 for 50-75, and maybe a small poster for those who can give 100. And for "Big" donors' gifties [more than 500] what do y'all think about the idea of a life-sized [30"x 40"] poster vs a 18 x 24 window cling ?
I'd love to do a small book with all of the Cow Series pieces in it, but that will have to wait until the series is actually finished [maybe another year or two].
I can't make up my mind... the polls are open... what do youse guys think? Inputs welcome...
After various botched attempts at self-video and then helped-by pa-in-law videos that turned out borked, I finally patched together a bit of video [the one that was going great till the dog and cat came wandering in and knocked over paintings] with a bit of slideshow. Accepted! [now I'm in emails w/ liaison re. numbers stuffs. :P ]
No, I haven't... is that another crowdfunding site? <~~learning.
Right now I am in the throes of putting together a "Hatchfund" page- arts-oriented thingie. Almost ready to launch, by the tone of our most recent email exchange... O.o* Will keep you posted.
Yeah, it's a general fundraising thing anyone can use, I've only been linked to it when someone was asking for funding. It supports multiple currencies, payment types, it's free, they just deduct 5% of any money raised and the rest goes directly to you.
Obrigado, sweetness. I'll look into it, depending how this goes- would hate to be asking people for help twice!
And then there's also the matter of getting Matt's LLC funded [being a rent-to-own concept means needing a bit of capital for systems up front]. Have quite a few irons in the fire [and cookies in the oven!] right now... Input most appreciated.
Hey, in this day and age, we need to support our artists... Maybe we can't afford a painting but your next creation... I will feel like it is a little bit... MINE!

None of y'all will ever guess what this is going to be about.
This thing has been languishing for months- eta: APRIL 25th, to be exact!! Finally got after it today for a bit, blocked out where the cows are going and rough-finished the clouds:
Still noodling away on the above piece, whilst simultaneously baking my brains out [no, COOKIES! you reprobates!].
Meanwhile, as seen on Myface, today's Hatchfund posting includes some interesting news, and an attenuation of the deadline by a little email I received this morning:
"....I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to make sure you received our emails about the increased match funds. Projects between 10-50% of their minimum goals are eligible for up to $500 in match funds. You will need to raise $230 for them to kick in! To take full advantage, you will need to raise $730 by Friday night for your total to be $1,300!
This will only last until 11:59 pm EST on Friday, December 20th so let your network know!"
So, like, I'm letting y'all know.
Please give and/or share forward, I really need the help.
Thanks in advance,
~Moi
Still doggedly persevering. I'm beginning work on the larger pieces. If you'd like to help to make this series a reality, you can contribute to the Hatchfund project, it's here:
Please share forward to those of your friends who love the arts. I promise I will work to the height of my abilities on this series- it matters greatly to me. Thanks.
I'm continuing to operate on the faith that somehow the money I'll need to do this project will come to me, whether via Hatchfund or by other means [thank you dear friends].
I'm still working on the "Gambol" piece, a smaller "fun" piece, but I also have been on a wee photo-safari [on the way home from dropping Matt at work] to make some "general balance" color-reference shots to augment the sketches and color studies I've done for the first large piece in the series.
By "large" I mean about 6' wide by 4' high [the "Meadow" painting, by contrast, which I've shown here, is 40"w x 30"h]. The view I'll be working from is of the landscape around the Rosebank Church- a little place between Ramona and Hope- in winter. The wild plants and grasses and field stubble are widely varying shades of ochre to orange to pink to rusty maroon, and those color details don't show in these photos.
They WILL, however, be in the painting. I'm posting a photo collage of the general image I have in mind, but don't let the somberness of this pastiche fool you- the final work will be highly textural, full of movement, and layered. It will still portray the mood of winter and the scale of place.
Last pitch. Thanks for putting up with me. Y'all rock.
The down side of being so disorganized is how much time I spend hunting for things. The good news is that sometimes I come across other things I thought I'd lost. This is "St Paulet Barn", oils, 18" x 24", collection: Robert M. Reidy . One of the few pieces that I have a record of from my wonderful trip to Languedoc in 2002. I would so much love to do more art-journeys there. :sigh: Photo by Marlis Momber — in Saint-Paulet, France.
So, yesterday the nice [but tough] lady from the Hatchfund place called up and asked me what I've been doing lately to pitch my project. [My response was, "...like, um, nothing...?"] So she [nicely] read me the riot act and then asked me to forward all of my prior facebook pitches to her as well. Which is making my skin crawl... I really hate dealing with "publicity" and even moreso asking people for money.
Hate it.
But I'm trying. :P

Lest you all think it's gone away, I am STILL pitching for my Hatchfund project. I'm not proud- I'll happily smooch you on the cheek for whatever you can spare! and please share forward to all of your friends who might toss $10 in my online begging bucket. Here's the "updates" page with my latest: http://www.hatchfund.org/user/jenniferhathaway/activity

The beginnings of the first of the cartoons [color studies] for The Big Un [the 4' tall by 6' wide piece I want to do of the Rosebank Church and environs]. Whoever can pitch in to my Hatchfund project, I'd be grateful- and if you can toss $1000 my way, I'll send you these working color studies [when I'm done using them] by way of a thank you.
