First online station I ever listened to. First heard Godsmack and a few other bands on it BEFORE they were popular on Los Angeles stations. I was a regular caller to them - I was even on the air once, LOL. "that crazy CA chick"
KATT was my go-to FM station when I was in high school, from the time that they changed their format to rock in 1976. They used to bring in decent bands for concerts and offer tickets for 100 cents.
One of my friends had a job making personal appearances in the KATT mascot suit back in the mid-80s.

I still have some KATT swag they sent to me.

That is awesome ISA.
Most of the DJ's are still around. Rick and Brad, Zoobeck , Jake Daniels all still there.
P2 Zoobeck added me on facebook. You should check it out he is looking OLD. I remember soooo many nights at the Samurai Saki house and his best legs contest. One of the very best nights for contestants and he was on his game big time and his wife showed up...I wanted to strangle her.
I did some internships there as promo and relief DJ. Best time of my life at a job. Totally wish I could do it on that level again. Just not as many local DJ's anymore, most stations are syndicated now.

Bah... regular radio stations have so many rules and standards, it's a pain in the ass. (From what I gather, anyway.)
I had a weekend show on college radio and we only had to adhere to not playing anything illegal (like cursing and shit), but we didn't have to play certain songs at certain times or any of that bullshit.
If I wanted to play Black Sabbath followed by Tori Amos followed by 20 minutes of talking about nothing followed by Prince, then some Sex Pistols... we could do that!
But I hear ya, being a DJ is fucking awesome.
I'd love to have that as a full-time, decent paying job.
(It's the "decent paying" that gets in the way. )
Kick I hated absolutely hated the corporate bs. The radio station talking about is one of the few left will real morning show dj's and not syndicated show. Dont get me wrong some of the syndicated shows are nice. I just prefer people you can run into daily.
I know a couple people still in the business that if I bugged them enough could probably get me back in. I just dont know if its worth it or not. Living in a one and a half horse town 100 miles from anything larger then a 7-11 scares me.
The "world" famous KROQ was our KATT like station here. But KATT was still ahead of them new music-wise.
SHHH, don't tell anyone but at one point I sent them a 2 hour Mark and Brian morning show recorded on cassette tape, per thier request.
I really wish I could remember the name of the dj I spoke to mostly.
(he would have been on around 10am central time)
Depending on how long ago, and the fact you say he I suspect it was Zoobeck. Zoo has been doing the midday Zoo for umpteen years now. And before that is was a woman named Kelly Davis.
Also Zoobeck is still blasting the airwaves. The man is IMO the best DJ they have had in many years.

Pretty sure it was Zoo, this was about 10/11 years ago. I would listen all day at work and then some in the evenings at home. He was my favorite.
