You know, a funny thing about these books that I just remembered (though I may have mentioned it before).

Researching and brainstorming about how "the mesh" in the novels would work was what brought me onto Second Life in the first place. So, technically, I probably wouldn't have "met" any of you if not for these novels.

You know, not to be a TOTAL tease, but man the stuff I'm writing in Book 4 is DARK.

I actually made myself shiver when I wrote one part...

Oh, yeah, and book 2 will still be out next month. Unless you're P2, in which case it may have been released last week.

I waited to see if I was going to get Haven and Hope for my birthday, but nope... so, I'll probably just end up buying the paperback online.
Since Book 2 is out soon, I'll probably move on it fairly quick.

Fairly.

(Book 4 sounds yummy!)

So, I'm reading Auggie's book on my vacation. And last night I came across his use of the term techie-wiki.

I spilled my Corona. Pissed me off, but I opened another and got back to reading...

Yep, that was for you guys. There's also mention of an elite hacker named Dakota, I think, among a couple other SC references.

Dakota? Bah. He's just a kid.

It's that dude Phoenix that's the real thing. Kind of a grey-hat, though.

Plus, he is underage. I wonder if Auggy is in any legal trouble for using him?

Auggie, is this (the serialized novel) the same book as Haven and Hope? I bought that for my Kindle the other day; haven't started it yet.

BTW, I had a dream the other night that you had written a short story on a piece of parchment paper about a girl who was rebelling against a dystopian US gov't in a "V for Vendetta vs. Big Brother" sort of way. I was reading it and it ended very unsatisfactorily and I was all non-plussed and WTF?

Yes it is, though the thread title is now a bit misleading. Originally this was about when I was releasing the book chapter by chapter online. Same book though.

Thanks for buying it! I hope you enjoy it, and feel free to ask me any questions.

Any questions? Ok, why does my cat always become fascinated by the inside of my mouth when I tawn and practically stick he head inside me open mouth?

I will assume for the purposes of my answer that "tawn" means "yawn."

The reason is that cats are very scent-driven creatures. From your breath, they can detect several elements of your current state, including health (fever, for instance) and recent eating habits.

I can't wait for Book 2. Honestly Auggie... I usually read non-fiction. It is rare that a novel, let alone a nonfiction series, hooked me like Haven and Hope.

(I must work on my review writing skills... I don't have them but I can learn.

Well I'm working my way through "Tik-Tok of Oz" - Trout has lots of the old 1920s copies of the Oz books, and they've been crying to me from the bookshelf. I'm also reading "The Return of Tarzan" on my Kindle, so as soon as I finish that, I'll read Auggie's book. Looking forward to it!

Book 2 has gone off to the editor! Expected release date is still on target for end of October (possibly early November, depending on the intensity of edits).

Book 3 is going through final pre-editor drafting now. I plan to get it to her as soon as she finishes 2, and aim to have Book 3 available by late January 2013 (though I'll be stalling at that point to build suspense ).

Book 4's first draft is 60% completed, with intent to finish it by end of November (using National Novel Writing Month as a boost). Second draft will begin immediately thereafter, with intended release of late April 2013.

Then Book 5, the final entry in the series. Late June or July 2013.

The thought of publishing 5 books in 13 months is a bit daunting.

Just in case you were wondering.

"Sunshine and Shade: Dark Mercury, Book Two" has been finalized.

I'm just working on the cover art now. The book should be released on Kindle by this weekend, and in print a couple weeks after that (more formatting to do, and I'm going to try to do a better job this time.).

Little teaser for the fans and persons not yet ignoring this thread.

Final concept art for the cover of Book 2. Still need to smooth out the lines on the silhouette, but I'm keeping a consistent theme through all the covers.

Oryx, you'll be pleased to know that the word "smirk" appears only 15 times in book two, never twice on the same page.

Now, so long as you don't start hating the word "grin," we'll get along just fine.

Two questions:

1) I saw Dakota's name. Why wasn't that character fleshed out into a preadolescent kid who got into all kinds of trouble but somehow always managed to come out squeaky clean

2) Towards the end when he takes all the surviving kids over to Kayla's condo there was a point where Kayla went into the other room and was sick or something. Did I imagine that? Was that ever explained or resolved?

1) Because it was a throwaway name.

2) You did not imagine it. She wasn't necessarily sick, she did declare that she had to go to the bathroom though. Since this almost never happens in books or movies without some major plot relevance, it no doubt caught your attention.

No, it was not resolved...

Edit to add: ...yet.

Kk, thanks. Kinda though my literature degree kicked in there and I was right. The downside of being trained to read as a lit student is you are hyper aware of that stuff and you can no longer read casually.

Almost done with book 2 and I'll be reading that thread soon.

I STILL haven't ordered Book 1, but now I can't until after Christmas.
Just in case.
(My wife was shopping off of my list and that's on there.)

If I don't get it for Christmas, I'll get it on my own shortly after.
