Interest in a Play-by-Post Old School D&D Game? (Character Signup Thread)

Default Interest in a Play-by-Post Old School D&D Game? (Character Signup Thread)

I am looking for a group of hearty souls to torture mercilessly.

The ruleset I'm using is the Labyrinth Lord ruleset, which is a clone of the old Basic/Expert rule sets that came out in the early 80s. Characters will die, horribly. You'll face off against everything from lowly brigands to high priests of old gods. You may be eaten by old gods, and the survivors might consider you the lucky one...

It would begin in June. Being a play-by-post campaign, it should be fairly durable against vacations and the like (I'd only expect players to check in once every 3 days or so and longer if you announce a vacation).

Anyone interested?

ETA:

Here's who's expressed interest so far:

Jen
Jorus
Vivianne
Carthalis
Charlemagne was 'intrigued'
Sarah Nerd
Bams
Kita
Ayu
Phoenix Psaltery
Patience
Edav Nomad
YOUR MOM (if he can be peer pressured into it)
Kick Frenzy

There's probably one person additionally who'd have to sign up for the forum to play.

As he was obviously a first level magic user, he was immune to Grues while he was alive, because everyone knows that all they're good for is holding the torch. However, I am now rolling 1d6 every round to see if a wandering grue comes to eat the survivors.

Kris, I've never played [most I ever did was a character sheet] but I might well be interested. And I suspect I could drag Matt into something like this... my nerd.

oh lord 2.0 was a much better ruleset... anyways in. I'd like dibs on a mage, or sorcerer should you bump the rules forward by 10 years.

Its been a while so id appreciate a link to the modified rules so i can be a metagaming dickmonger.

An artless complimentary copy of the Rules can be grabbed on the official web page of the system I'm using:

http://www.goblinoidgames.com/labyrinthlord.html

There *will* be some house rules but I'll try to keep them reasonable.

OMG I haven't played since I was young. I used to sit in on my brother's games with his friends.

Now I have to decide if I have the time. Count me in and we'll see what happens. I like the old school rules. I picked up all the 4th ed stuff in ebook format from my brother, but have had zero time to check it out.

I am currently in talks with the administration to bribe them into installing a dice mod. You'd do something like [roll]2d6+1[/roll] and it would spit out a unique dice roll.

Where do i find the list of gods - or do you just make up the kind of god you worship as a cleric?

Default Player Resources and House Rules

Ruleset:
  • Labyrinth Lord - The core ruleset. At least read/skim the first 19 pages.
Optional Character Classes:
This should give everyone a lot of variety in what to play. Don't be shy about playing something that seems 'hard'. I'll help out green players as much as I can.

House Rules: (updated 4/15/10)
  • We will be using the 9 way alignment chart.
  • Binding Wounds: Players will be able to bind their wounds for 1d4 points of damage per game day.

How the dice roller works:

[ dice=5 ]6[ /dice ]

################# FORMATTING INFORMATION ################

To roll a dice use the following tag,

[ dice=X ]Y[ /dice ]

X - The number of dice to roll, This cannot be larger then 5 currently, this may change later with demand.
Y - The number of sides on the dice.

so [ dice=3 ]6 [ /dice ] Rolls 3 6 sided dice.

In action!

Dice roll with 3 dices of 6 faces: 11 points

Kind of like MOM - always wanted to play but never had the opportunity. Played a couple times when hubby ran some other RPGs but could never get into character ... maybe it'll be easier for me through the forum...

The quasi-official count stands at 12, now, but if anyone else is interested please don't be shy. I'll likely split everyone into two groups to begin with, but attrition is a given in an online campaign, so the more the merrier.

I like to run my campaigns based on player feedback. If something was fun, tell me and if something is not fun, absolutely tell me!
