Unhappy R.I.P. Joe Paterno

What a life this man had, its sad to leave this world under the scrutiny he did. That said either way right or wrong about what happened.

Sorry, no sympathy.

He might be dead, but his indifference to child abuse ruined not one, not two, but MANY young lives.

I have a little pity for the guy. He is an obvious scape goat in my eyes.

The University is the one at fault. The had the knowledge. But when the heat got turned on it was too easy to turn the attention to Paterno. Almost all blame of a cover up has been on him. He was about to die, everyone knew his health health, easy target for the school.

He is no saint but I think he was following the lead of his boss's.

So how long after he died was it reported to authorities?

Meh. Paterno only lost his job. His bosses, the University representatives, not only lost their jobs but are facing criminal charges for perjury. Thus I would not say Paterno got a scapegoat's share of the blame.

All this is a distraction anyway. The level boss is Sandusky.

I haven't heard any incriminating public announcements from him in a while; maybe he hired a different lawyer...

I agree but we don't know he showed indifference. The only thing we know for sure is that he didn't follow through on making sure that what was told to him actually happened and that the people he did pass the information on to were pursuing it.

He absolutely could have done more but I'm still withholding judgement until more information comes out.

Right now, for me, his situation is worse than unfortunate but I'll wait to see how bad it is.

Same lawyer just smarter tactics and the legal process is slow.

And the rush to "burn the witch" reminds me of Aimee's comment in another thread

The horse is out of the barn. The only thing I can think of is that maybe his lawyer was going for some sort of mistrial or something based on ineffective counsel. Purposely shotgunning a case in order to retry after appeal is a tactic that is tried occasionally in death penalty cases, and its only real purpose is to prolong proceedings, but geesh! It's basically purposely committing malpractice. You might as well tear up your license and throw it away! Talk about diving under the bus for someone.

I remember a trial tactics professor telling the class once, "If anyone is going to jail, make damn sure it's your client and not YOU"

It struck me as funny at the time, and it still does, but now in a much darker way.
