One of the most conspicuous things in the Tesla vimeo is what you don't see. During the welding--the spot welds that hold the body sections together--there are no sparks that fly from the weld points. This indicates a refinement of body fit--the panels have to have near zero gap between them at the weld seams--and a refinement of weld control--electric current wave form shape--of a very high degree to make such welds without sparks. The panels also have to be very clean of all contaminants.
Those of you who may remember the 1980s American Big Three's ads about their manufacturing process will perhaps remember shots of robots welding similar panels together and the small and big showers of sparks that resulted at the welds. It was amazing to me to watch Tesla's robots at work, sans sparks.
Spotwelding is on display at 1:30. Arc welding (which does produce sparks) is shown at 0:30.
Arc welding, was fun, but damn, its so hard to see out of those welders masks... seriously, you have to almost develop a sixth sense to find the work because its like looking for a black cat, on a coal cellar, with the lights out while wearing sunglasses.
We used to intentionally make huge sparks while gas welding for shits and giggles by dipping the flame in the molten pool.

During my engineering studies, I worked in a factory that made resistance welding machines of all types (spotwelding is one type of resistance welding). However, over in one corner, welding together the frames of the bigger machines we were building, were the arc welding gang. Spectacular lights and horrendous banging on thick metal sections that had been distorted by the heat of the welding was a constant racket from those guys. You were one of them?
So you're saying there was no market force in play during the civil war?
I've always understood it as the north investing in debt to build machines to do human labor while the south simply used cheap labor, and that so long as the south used human labor they would be able to out perform the north, producing more textiles with less debt. Thus, the north had to impose its will in order to make their debt financing work.
The South were raw materials producers and the North were finished product producers. You are thinking of them as seperate economic loops when in reality they were part of one large loop. Most of the economic hardships were due to the war, not in leadup to it.

I did a bit of welding at Robert Gordons in my applied Physics course, which I never completed.

Mero was too busy looking at his high yeller ass in the mirror, sure he could pass, during high school to pay attention to that boring, pointless history and just makes shit up to reinforce his ignorant "ideas".

Mero: You are stupid. That is one of the worst things I can say about someone, that they are stupid because there is no cure for stupid. However, you are also ignorant. There is a cure for that but you are too stupid to care and think you are such hot shit, it doesn't matter. Until you open your mouth and people who are intelligent and educated call you on your stupid, ignorant bullshit.
I'm so sick of you and of everyone responding to your crap.
What Mr. Ryan actually offers, then, are specific proposals that would sharply increase the deficit, plus an assertion that he has secret tax and spending plans that he refuses to share with us, but which will turn his overall plan into deficit reduction.

The first sign of trouble has already surfaced over the issue of Medicare. Mr. Romney, in an attempt to repeat the G.O.P.’s successful “death panels” strategy of the 2010 midterms, has been busily attacking the president for the same Medicare savings that are part of the Ryan plan. And Mr. Ryan’s response when this was pointed out was incredibly lame: he only included those cuts, he says, because the president put them “in the baseline,” whatever that means. Of course, whatever Mr. Ryan’s excuse, the fact is that without those savings his budget becomes even more of a plan to increase, not reduce, the deficit.
So will the choice of Mr. Ryan mean a serious campaign? No, because Mr. Ryan isn’t a serious man — he just plays one on TV.

Slavery makes no economic sense and would have died out in America as it did in most other countries. .

Yes this study was controversial, but it was done by economists from an economic point of view, and they definitely found the system worked, which was why it was defended.
