Default Sunshine and Shade (Dark Mercury: Book 2) released!

And you can buy it here.

As promised, Sunshine and Shade is now available! Only $3.99 on the Kindle store! The print version will be online in a couple of weeks at the latest.

I'd also love to see a bit of conversation going about the book in this thread, if you're so inclined. My recommendation is to put all spoilers of potential spoilers behind a hide tag with the chapter number in it.

As always, I'm open to feedback of all sorts.

Oh, also, if you haven't ready the first book in the series yet (Haven and Hope), it is available
here here
.

Enjoy!

Dude, I can't start it before I finish the first (about 1/2 way done, been so little time). When will Vol2 be available for Nook?

I am theoretically constrained to keep it on Amazon only for a period of time.

That being said, I'm not opposed to working out a deal to forward a PDF for Nook-ites. We'll work something out when the time comes.

Augie, let's just wait until the right time to do it. I've still got more reading to do, and this way you'll have at least one guaranteed Nook sale!

Got it!

(I had the PDF all this month, but it was hard to read that way when I'm spoiled by Kindle's usability).

I probably could have picked a better time to launch than during a hurricane ravaging the east coast. Still, not bad movement for the first 24 hours.

The link in the first post still works for me, but I've heard some people can't find it THROUGH their Kindle, which is frustrating...

The third draft of Ecstasy and Vendetta (Book Three) is about a third done.

Now, if some more of you would get out there and buy Book Two (and One, if you haven't yet), I'd be ever-so-grateful.

Sales so far are lagging a bit, but I haven't done the big push at my work yet. I'm giving a speech at work in early December about writing novels and the state of the publishing industry, complete with free food (on the company dime, no less), so that'll be a nice push.

Ok, done. For those that haven't read it yet, everyone dies in the end. No lie.

Ok, Auggie wants comments and feedback... I felt the pace was a little confused. That's one of the things I was very impressed with in book one. Pace built up with the plot and story very smoothly. Book two was a little disjointed. Only a little though.

It's ok to confuse your reader as long as it is for a reason. In book two I had no clue where you were (are) going with the romantic kinda maybe between Sunshine and Jacob. I was a little disappointed the book ended with no explanation there.

May just be me but I had a hard time suspending my disbelief that an American would be accepted by a Russian mafia family.

Book one stuff but what was "Hope" in Haven and Hope"or was it no a proper noun "Hope" like " Haven", "Sunshine" and "Shade"?

What happened to the residual of Haven? I thought that would come more into play in book two beyond the very brief mentions.

I noticed a few more errors in book two than one. I forgot to make note of them but I remember at least twice there was no open quotes to dialog, both times at the paragraph and the previous paragraph was someone else speaking.

You're the first person to mention errors in book 2, so I'm worried about that. I think I should pay a bounty for people to find them so I can re-upload.

Well, I'm not saying it was riddled with errors. I was in reading mode not editor mode but I remember seeing something 3 times. Twice was the missing open quotes and I don't remember the other

Auggie, you need to work the critic circuit. Get it reviewed by someone, even a buddy with a lame blog if necessary then send it to a more "reputable" place with comment "reviewed in..." and so on until you can get a decent level review. Even the San Francisco Chronicle or San Jose Mercury would do amazing things for your career

Any estimated ETA on book Three?

And how's it going financially? Are you breaking even on costs?

Hey, Johnny.

Book Three is due out late January or early February. It's written, and the third draft (out of four) is 60% done. Then it goes to the editor in early January, and comes out when I've finished her edits.

Book One has barely broken even, after accounting for paying the editor and general publicity (business cards, a set of flyers, etc.). It only broke even starting this month, when my pimping Book Two caused a spike in sales of One. I suppose this is a good thing.

Book Two, however, just really isn't selling. It's moving at about 40% of the pace that One did over the same time period. So it's well in the red now, but there's still time. I'm hoping that some of these newcomers to the series that are still buying One will segue into two.

Hmm... how can we publicize these books so that we can all say we know a famous author?

If you have an account there go and Like my review on Goodreads.

But don't do it all at once or it might seem suspicious. ^.^

Thank you, Zorena.

If I could get some more traction on Goodreads, that would be great, too. You can add either/both books to your Currently Reading or Want to Read lists, review either or book there, etc.

Another way (which several of you have already done) is Amazon reviews, especially if Amazon will recognize you as a confirmed purchaser. I have eight reviews on Haven and Hope, and only two on Sunshine and Shade.

Along with that, any further Facebook or friend spamming you're willing to do would be great. If you're tired of spamming for me on FB (or elsewhere), you could suggest people join the FB group to keep updated.

They can even follow this shortcut link to find it: http://follow.havenandhope.com

Any and all other ideas welcomed.

I found a bookstore in SL that features books written by Second Life residents or ABOUT Second Life, plus some that are just about Virtual Worlds. It's called Metaverse Books. I sent a suggestion to its owner that he add Auggie to the SL authors featured there.

And any parties I attend tend to be camera free.

I've actually messed around with the idea of the Dark Mercury Collectible Card Game (or just card game in general). I have this deep seated fear of the game outselling the books, though.

So what if it did? How many times do you see a book version of a movie or manga or even video games now? Lots! It may be a good tie in.

I haven't bought this book yet.
There's a couple reasons though...
1 - I haven't read the first one (official release) yet.
2 - It's not in print yet (I think).

Like I mentioned in the OG thread, I'm waiting to see if I get Book 1 for Christmas.
If not, then I'll get 1 and 2 on my own and start devouring them ASAP.
(And leaving reviews and shit. )

Gratz on getting Book 2 out there!!!
