Really, really thrilled to hear HBO are going to turn American Gods into a TV series, it was one of the first Neil Gaiman books I ever read and only just recently re-read it again, and that he's also writing the script for it is pretty awesome and now I'm intrigued to see who they've got to play different characters and if reports are to be believed it will span 6 seasons.
I know this sounds weird but they will have to handle this delicately. I'm glad to see Gaiman is doing the screenplays but I wonder how much control he'll have over the production. With what it's based on the director might want to focus more on an SFX approach instead of just the good dialogue the book contains.
As for 6 seasons I'm not sure I'm happy about that. I'd like to see the book itself brought to life and not some offshoot. The charm of that work is that it's contained in one volume. I'd hate to see it get spread thin.
I loved the Anansi Boys but because it felt like a separate work and not a sequel.
One of the reasons I really adore Gaiman is because his books are NOT a set up for a sequel.
