Hello there!
It's been a couple weeks, but it's time for a new review!

So, let's get to it!

The beer:

(Alc. 7%)

The smell: Hmm... smells a little bready and like it's going to have a bite. I'm getting a little raisin and a bit of spice maybe. (To be honest, I'm feeling a little out of practice at this... hrmph)

The taste: That's a pleasant tasting beer. The malt lingers a bit on the back end, but it smooth up front. There's possibly a bit of smoky/woody flavor going on. There's something else... tight? ...about it that I can't quite put my finger on (maybe it's a yeast thing?).

Overall, not a bad beer. If someone is looking to go dark, this is another good entry beer for them. It sits on the dark side, but still has a lightness about it, all while having a decent punch to sobriety.

And nude monk girls aren't easy to come by... so... yeah, no pic this time.

And here we are, another couple weeks later.
Granted, it's been a busy couple of weeks culminating with Lil Kicks 3rd birthday a couple days ago.

But now, it's back to business.
Time to drink!
(Not that anyone is really paying any attention to this thread anymore, but hey... I'm trying to keep my chops slightly sharpened for when I (hopefully) start a blog that'll include these type of reviews.)

Anyfuck... on we (or, just I) go!

The beer:

(Alc. 7%)

Smellin it: I can smell the hops up front, but they're not threatening me or anything. They just are part of the scene, man... and it smells like a thickish scene at that. Y'know, like it has some nice curves.

Tastin it: Hello, hops! The bitter qualities of hops are a straightforward quality here, but not enough to screw up my face. That thickness is here, but it tends to only present itself in the front... the curves don't slide down my throat, instead just groovin on my tongue. The tangy citrus side of the hops pique the interest of the sides of my tongue and almost stop there... ghosting over onto the top of my tongue a little after swallong the sip I've taken.

Overall, my least favorite of the Yards brews I've tried. But that's simply because I'm not a huge fan of hops or IPAs and the others I've tried are much more along the taste profiles I enjoy.
That being said, it's a really good IPA and you wouldn't regret this choice if you're looking for a tasty IPA.

(I'm totally at a loss for a related pic idea... if anyone is reading and has a pic of a hottie on a ship bound for India, please feel free to post it! )

Well, it's been about a week and a half and it's time to try yet another new beer.
Maybe I'll even remember to come back and post something more in this thread tonight!

Anyway, here it is:

(Alc. 7.0%)

Smell: Hops! Maybe a little bit of a wheat backbeat, but mostly it's citrusy hops wafting out of this bottle.

Taste: Not as much bite up front as I would expect, and the bitter back-end is calm, even if it does present itself a little early. That wheaty body is just slightly omnipresent before fading off in the second half or so.

Overall, if you're into hoppy IPAs, then this is a great choice. It's not pinching or punching, instead it has a bit of a brightness to it. It's a happy beer. But only recommended if you truly like a strong presence of hops.

And the (somewhat) related pic:

Well, it's that time of year again.
The time when Halloween and fall shit starts coming out well before it's actually that season or holiday.
Which includes... pumpkin beer!

So far, according to my reviews, Elysian Night Owl is the best version I've had yet.
I'm about to test a new one...

(Alc. 8.1%)

Smells like: There's a faint spiced pumpkin smell on top of what smells like a wheat beer. The more I smell it, the more the pumpkin comes across. But it doesn't smell like it'll be over-powering at all. But enough bottle sniffing, let's drink!

Tastes like: Very calm and understated. It tastes like a standard beer with good body, but with something lurking beneath. That lurking flavor resolves into a vague pumpkin pie type of taste in the tail end, as it fades out.

Overall, not a standout pumpkin offering. However, it is a good tasting beer with decent body. It's also not bitter or tangy, even if slightly metallic in the mid-range.

I'm drinking again tonight, but just finishing up leftovers.
Currently working on the last Backseat Berner that I had.
After that, I have 2 River Horse Imperial Pumpkins left if I want more.

Oh yeah!
My wife got me some moonshine for our anniversary a few days ago!
(How cool is that?)
I won't be imbibing tonight, but I'll post about it when I do.

Hey... um..
Have I mentioned that I'm working on starting a blog?

It doesn't have an official name yet and it's still a work in progress, but it's a thing I'm trying to do.
Except for the part where RL got all fucked up just as I settled on which service to use and shit.
But health issues easily take precedence over starting a blog.
So, it's been on hold and probably will be for at least a few more days.

So, that's that for now...

Alrighty, here we go.
I've been a little excited for tonight for the past few nights... ever since I picked up my latest brew.
I had a feeling I'd tried it before and sure enough, I did.

Exactly one year ago, tonight, I reviewed a beer by Dogfish Head, called "Punkin Ale".
Tonight, I drink and review the same brew, but this years batch.
yay!

Here's a side by side pic of them both:

(Alc. 7%)

Smells like: It smells like a regular ale at first, but after a few sniffs the pumpkin weaves it's way into the mix. And a hint of spices to go along with it. But still, mostly a regular ale scent.

Tastes like: The first thing I notice is the decent thickness to the body. It's body is closer to a stout than an ale, I think. The pumpkin taste is even fainter than the smell, almost non-existent. The spices lend a hand to the flavor profile, but not really on the pumpkin side of things.

Overall, similar to last year. I believe that last year I stated it was a good beer and should be filed under "fall" instead of "pumpkin"... the same goes for this year. Good beer, a good fall beer at that... but not really a good showing for a pumpkin beer.

And here's a fitting pic.
Some pumpkin colors, kinda spicy, but no real pumpkin to be found...

Ah, so media.giphy.com is a site that tracks viewers of its gifs, according to eff.org's Privacy Badger. Presumably, giphy.com then uses that info, either selling it or feeding selected ads to viewers based on gifs that they've looked at.

Hey there... whoever reads this thing.
Tonight is a flashback to when I had multiple different beers for one night.
One of them is just the last of the Dogfish Head Punkin Ale, but I'll have that one either second or last (total of 3 beers in the fridge).

But the first one is a bit off the beaten path...

(Alc. 5.8%)

Smell: Pretty simple on this one... smells like root beer, with just a hint of alcohol.

Taste: Oh, wow... tastes almost exactly like root beer. Easily better than the exaggerated sweetness of "Not Your Fathers Root Beer" (Small Town Brewery), which I've tried before. There's just a hint of alcohol, almost medicinal grade, on the tail end. But it's so slight, it can pretty much be ignored and you can just enjoy it as a regular root beer. Albeit, knowingly alcoholic. But if I didn't know better, it would just taste like an understated root beer.

And since I couldn't find a nudie pic with root beer in it, I'm just going with a girl that reminds me of root beer:

And on to beer number two!

(Alc. 5.5%)

The smell: Immediately smells sweet and hoppy. Not incredibly sweet, but sweet. I think I'm also not smelling any bitterness. Perhaps a nice malty backbeat in there as well.

The taste: Weird... it's definitely stronger on hops, but not overpowering or grandstanding at all. The bitterness is there, but lightly in the back end. A bit of a creamy mouthfeel when drinking from the bottle, but then dissipates into something thinner just before swallowing.

Overall, a weird taste that makes me think I want to say it's bland, but my mouth says it really isn't. Not a bad beer, not a great beer. Probably good for what it wants to be though, as it proclaims on the label... "citrusy session pale ale". And going with the name "Live", I could see drinking this in a backyard, in the summer, listening to a rock band.

I started looking for a pic for this one, but I'm just not inspired by the label or the beer...

I know it's only been a few days, but here I am ready to drink again.
And sure it's a bit later than I usually start, but I'm also going to get hit harder with tonight's drink.

And no, it's not a beer that's up at 10% or more.

Tonight, I'll be drinking:

(Alc. (bottled at) 50%)

The smell: I can smell the strawberry, but the moonshine comes through sharp and clear. Not much else to say about the smell, so...

The taste: There's definitely a sense of strawberry, but the alcohol is bold and way far out front. Not much lingering on the tongue, but the warm burn hangs out for awhile. A bit at the back of the tongue and throat, but the chest burns for awhile. Although "burn" seems a bit harsh, as it's also kinda comforting.

Overall, I don't have much experience with moonshine, so there's not much I can compare it to. But I'm guessing it's good for strawberry moonshine. Although, now that I've tried it straight from the jar, I'm mixing it with Mountain Dew's DEWshine (and a touch of cranberry juice).
Still has a bite, but much more manageable now.

Hello there.
Guess what?

CHICKEN BUTT!

No, seriously though... it's another night o' drinkin!

No new beer this time, just hitting up the moonshine again.
This time I've mixed it with a little Orange Peach Sunny D and, again, DEWshine for the rest.

I can still taste the alcohol quite clearly, but the Sunny D really helps make it more palatable.
I could see drinking this at some backyard party... with lawn darts or some shit, lol.
Anyhoo, it's tasty and I just took my second sip.

But since there was no sexay pic last time, I'mma find something somehow related this time.

*Stay Tuned*

So, I finished off that moonshine.
Ended up going into SL and partying at some club.
Danced on a pole (didn't get any tips).
Had a great time chatting with people while I was sloshed outta my fuckin head.
It was a lot of fun!

Tonight, I'm finally getting around to drinking beer again!
Yay!

I'm trying a pumpkin beer that I haven't had yet.
Namely, this one:

(Alc. 9%)

On the nose: Definitely can smell pumpkin and spices in there. The more I sniff at the neck, the more it smells like beautifully spiced pumpkin pie. Possibly strong on... something... in the spices.

On the tongue: It's thicker than I expected, with a stout-like creaminess. The pumpkin is much less pronounced, as well as the spices. But it's still a tasty brew.
Worth noting: I'm letting the second beer sit out to get closer to room temperature by the time I drink it. I'll also be using a glass instead of straight from the bottle for the second one. This should tone down the alcohol taste and bring out more of the pumpkin spice flavors.

Overall (for now): A really pleasant beer that hints at being a pumpkin beer.

I'm going to try to remember to re-review it with the second bottle.
(And I'll add a hottie pic then, too... for now, my dog is whining at me to take him out, so I gotta go.)

Ok, I've been into the second beer for a bit now.
Here's the more current review:

Once again, I can smell the pumpkin and spices pretty well.
But now comes the taste test...

Ok, still not very front and center, but I can definitely taste more of the pumpkin and spice flavors now.

Final assessment - A very enjoyable beer, but both somewhat decent and lacking as a pumpkin offering.
I would buy it again (currently still have two left in the fridge) if I wanted a high ABV brew that's fun to drink... and that I'd had previously.
(But, as y'all know, I like to attempt to try drinking something new every time I get beer.)

And here's that pic I said I'd add...

Hey there everyone!
Time for another new beer!
Not that I'll be running around the forums like usual, since I'll be watching the Democrats debate!!

But, just so y'all know... tonight's chosen brew is:

(Alc. 5.6%)

Smell: Smells like an oak-y ale.

Taste: As always, Innis & Gunn is a wonderful beer. Smooth, with no bitter bite. Just beautiful, smooth and a little creamy.

(Sorry for short review, but debate time!)

Well, hello there!
It's been 10 days since my last night o'drinkin and it's time to imbibe.

I'm straying a little from the beaten path tonight.
Instead of drinking from a 12oz bottle, I'll be drinking from a pint glass.
I got one of them bigger bottles after someone on another forum recommended it.

Here, instead of yammering on about it, how 'bout I just show yous what I gots:

(Alc. 10.31%)

Smellin from the glass: Well, she's giving good head, I'll giver er that right off the bat. Hard to smell properly through all that foam, but it smells nice... a decent amount of spiced pumpkin coming through. Smells like a good night ahead, t'be honest.

Tastin from that glass: She's got some muscle and lurks in the dark a bit. I can taste the pumpkin and the spices, but nowhere near too strongly. Not as pronounced as I remember the Elysian Night Owl being, but definitely on the higher end of pumpkin brews that I've tried. It may be the fact it wasn't refrigerated, but the malt has taken a seat in the front row it seems... not in a bad way, just in a matter of fact way.

Overall: A bit more of an alcohol bite than I prefer, but that's not surprising once we get over the 10% mark per volume. I'd probably put it in the top 5 pumpkin brews I've tried. Not sure if it's top 3... but it's possible.

And now...

this...

Oh ahi th3re.
I finished my beer.

Now I'm moving on to a tiny 50ml bottle of rum.

Namely:

(Alc. 43%)

Smell: woooooah, that's strong. Ok.. give me a sec.
...
Smells pretty "bitey", but some caramel in there may help.

Taste: Yup, that clears the passages. It tastes like what the label says it is... rum aged in bourbon casks. It has a harsh burn, but would go really well with a good cigar. A strong smoky soul coupled with a vanilla/caramel spirit. Not a bad selection.
This grows on me the more I drink it... but that's not surprising seeing as how I just came off that (comparatively sweet) Imperial Pumpkin brew.

Hello again.
Another political debate night means another night of drinking.

Tonight's brew is:

(Alc. 7.8%)
(Drinking from pint glass and it's been sitting on the counter, not in the fridge.)

Smell: I can smell the chocolate and raspberry flavors right off the bat.

Taste: A bit lighter of a stout body than most have. The flavors are coming through loud and clear. It tastes light chocolate covered raspberries... yummy.

(That's it for now, gotta get to watching the debate.)

Just a small note.

While hat stout was yummy, it wasn't something I'd suggest drinking an entire bottle of.
It gets a little off-putting after awhile.
Just a bit on the sweet side is all, more like a dessert beer.

I know it's only been a couple days, but we're not babysitting tomorrow and that always makes me want to take advantage of the night.
That being said, it's also Halloween tomorrow and I don't want to be hurting when it's time to do the family thing, so I'm not planning on getting tore up.

Of course, tonight's selection may present an issue on that front if I'm not careful.

Exhibit A:

(Alc. 13%)
(Again, this has been sitting on the counter, not in the fridge. And I'm drinking from a pint glass.)

Smells like: Well, this is interesting. This ale smells mostly like... a red wine!
I think the yeast is actually presenting a twist to this.
There seems to be a hint of raisin as well.

Tastes like: The first things to come to mind are smoke and molasses.
At the same time, I'm appreciating the wonderfully smooth character of this ale.
There a bit of a bite at first which turns into a soft burn that slowly makes it's way down the throat and chest.

Overall, I could see myself easily drinking this much faster than I should.
I got super lucky on this, as it's usually $24.99 at the store I went to, but they had a couple cases by the front that were selling for $8.99/bottle... so I picked one up after the owner extolled the virtues of this to me (apparently the delivery guy said he wanted 6 bottles, but the owner told him no... he could have 2).

yummy

Another debate, er... "forum", night... another night o' drinkin.
Tonight I'll be partaking:

(Alc. 5.8%)

This one I've had in the fridge for a little bit.
I'll be drinking from a pint glass again though.
(BAh... so much head! Maybe it isn't quite cold enough yet...)

Smell: Definitely has an "ale" smell. Smooth and comfortable. There's an earthyness to the smell, which is expected since it makes use of barley, whet, oat, and rye! There also seems to be a slight citrus note in there, probably from the hops.

Taste: That is definitely earthy with just a slight amount of tart citrus at the end. Pretty damn close to a perfect autumn ale. I could see sipping this outside with the smell of leaves wafting through the air... maybe a chimney is smoking in the distance. A slight nip in the air. A pleasant touch of spice wafts through the entire profile.

Overall, a wonderful autumn brew. Highly drinkable and would easily suggest this for just about anyone who wants a pleasant beer.

And this pic'll do

Another debate, another night of drinkin.
And as I'm wont to do on debate nights, I leave myself like no time to really think about my review.

But, here we go anyway.
Tonight, I'm drinking:

(Alc. 5.5%)
(Once again, I'll be using a pint glass instead of just drinking it straight from the bottle.)

Smell: Smells a little sweet for a stout, but that's probably related to the chocolate, which is just barely able to be detected off the top. It also has a... clearness.. to the smell, like fresh cold spring water would have.

Taste: Hmm... very slight on taste. There is a darkness in there... and I think I can sense the chocolate that the label mentions. Now that I read the label again, I think I can taste a bit of the coffee notes as well.
(But, I've had it in the fridge and I think the coldness is masking the flavor, so I've taken two bottles out to warm up a bit as the night goes on... hopefully it will strengthen the notes.)

Overall, not bad. I expected a heavier beer, but that may be partially due to having been drinking my beers without refrigerating them lately. We'll see how it goes later. I'll try to come back and give another review later... and a pic then too, but the debate is starting so I gotta go!

Ok, 10 days have gone by since my last post and it's finally time to drink!
Nothing to really say about tonight's brew, since it's one I've alrea... hold on... just checked and... nope... I actually haven't reviewed this one apparently!!
That's so weird...

So, apparently back in the early pages of this thread, I did have this beer, but I never reviewed it at all!

Well, then... here we go!
Tonight's brew is...

(Alc. 6.0%)

(Cold and straight from the bottle)

Smell: Ohh... so yummy. It has a creamy thickness even on the nose, with a strong chocolate/coffee soul. I believe I can sense the milk (well, lactose) ghosting through the whole thing. Just... wonderful.

Taste: Taste almost exactly like it smells, just an added bit of smokiness. A little brighter in notes than you would expect, but still as thick and creamy as it should be. It's somewhat comforting, like a blanket for your beer-soul.

Overall, I fucking love this beer. It is easily one of my favorites... which says a lot, because I could probably only name a few that would go on that list. Maybe I should try to make a Top 5 list sometime... anyway, good shit.

Ok, I've got a repeat performance.
I've reviewed this beer before, but I'mma review it again tonight.

The beer:

(Alc. 6.5%)

The smell: It smells like an IPA, but maybe lager-fied.I think I can smell grape skins in there. And it smells like it has a decent thickness, especially for an IPA.

The taste: Well, there's definitely some hops in there... but I'm also getting a bit of a winey bite. It does have a thicker body than an IPA usually has, but not a grand amount or anything. Several sips in and the hops are settling into the background, or at least blending in more evenly.

Overall, a bit metallic tasting... not in a bad way, just like... if the water used had a higher metal content than my local water has. Easily a drinkable beer and nothing is harsh or boorish, but it's not as awesome as I remembered it being. Basically... not bad, would drink again, but not my first choice.

I just wanted to drop a note that I'm working on a new skin for myself.
Not just talking about it, but almost finished... could be, but I think I want to try out another design or three for my eye tattoo/makeup/whatever it is.

In fact, I think I'm going to go work on it now!
