Default John Green novels

Yeah, he's most a young adult lit. writer, but I love the hell out of his characters (in a non-pedo way). They're smart and honest and always worth reading about. The latest book is The Fault in Our Stars, which is heartbreaking. Really, just heartbreaking and only barely hopeful at the end. But read it anyway. It will make you want to kill things if you're a writer because you will die of envy about how GOOD a writer he is.

I read this book this morning (I'm a really fast reader, so yeah...), but it affected me all day. I could barely teach the first half of my class this afternoon because I was still sad about the book and jealous about John Green's writing abilities. I'm going to reread it tonight (or sometime) because it's an amazing story that deserves an immediate reread. I love this book in the way I love Slash's Godfather solo, because you recognize it's art, and you're transported by it, but also feel so depressed by it because you know you will never reach that kind of virtuosity in anything you do, but then you keep trying anyway just because you love to do what you do. Does that make sense?

Okay, it makes me feel like Salieri felt about Amadeus.

Yup, that's the one. Not sure it's the same performance I have on my playlist from the Slash album, but definitely that song.

I read the book Sans recommended. I loved how the kids talk to each other -- just a little more... I don't know... elegant than every day. Reminded me of the two girls in Juno.

I loved the book.
