I'm not actually reading this yet, since it's not released yet. It'll be out next week, August. 16.

Amazon.com Review
Amazon Best Books of the Month, August 2011: Ready Player One takes place in the not-so-distant future--the world has turned into a very bleak place, but luckily there is OASIS, a virtual reality world that is a vast online utopia. People can plug into OASIS to play, go to school, earn money, and even meet other people (or at least they can meet their avatars), and for protagonist Wade Watts it certainly beats passing the time in his grim, poverty-stricken real life. Along with millions of other world-wide citizens, Wade dreams of finding three keys left behind by James Halliday, the now-deceased creator of OASIS and the richest man to have ever lived. The keys are rumored to be hidden inside OASIS, and whoever finds them will inherit Halliday’s fortune. But Halliday has not made it easy. And there are real dangers in this virtual world. Stuffed to the gills with action, puzzles, nerdy romance, and 80s nostalgia, this high energy cyber-quest will make geeks everywhere feel like they were separated at birth from author Ernest Cline.--Chris Schluep

I can't help but think any book based off of second life would be depressing as fuck.

"And the virtual gods stepped down from their virtual heavens, and said 'I have given you the land, and the tools, go forth my children and create' and from the fingertips of demigods sprang the first structures crude at first, boxy and utilitarian, I know what you are thinking dear reader. From the imagination of humanity have come many great structures, the great wall of China... The Eiffel Tower.... and even those fictional such as the many Starship's and their like. Any of these would be sure to capture the spirit of these pioneering demigods.... Would you like to know what they built? It is simple... look to human nature: they build a strip mall and a titty bar."

It's not about Second Life, you dickwads. It's about a virtual world kind of like the one in Snow Crash, such as I envision the Metaverse becoming. She was just saying that there were similarities.

This is a much better book than Snow Crash. For one thing, there's none of that Babylonian bullshit, for one thing.

I've read part of this in the store. It's quite good, with an original premise other than "LOL THE INTERNET."

Not sure if you guys saw this in the comments on NWN:

Opps. I forgot to turn that off. It used to be a private build area for my store. All fixed.

UPDATE: I have taken that problem that i had with the security and in the spirit of the book create a bit of a game out of it. Now when you arrive you again will not be able to get strait in. You will need to complete a game within Secondlife in order to get into the Aech's Basement. Its not real hard but give it a shot. Im sure it will evolve in time.

(I haven't read this and if I'm going to read any metaverse/cyber-punk/whatever genre book, it's going to be Dark Mercury first! )
