Default Society and culture..The beat generation.

I'm reading again ( because of their exposition in Paris centre Pompidou) Kerouac, Ginsberg, Burroughs, it is a little old fashioned but they had a great life.

They meet in New York at the end of the Second World War. They love each other, blurring, reconcile, to send letters. Travels in San Francisco, Mexico City, Tangier ... and, of course, Paris, where Ginsberg and Burroughs stay in the late 1950s. They celebrate Rimbaud and Apollinaire, meet Duchamp there, with real affinities with Dada, Artaud, Genet ...

In quest for the absolute and self-fulfillment, breaking puritan America, they experience sex and drugs. But the heart of this great friendship, there is mostly three writers and three books - Howl Ginsberg (1956), Kerouac's On the Road (1957) and Burroughs' Naked Lunch (1959) - that will blow up the world letters and influence attitudes to come.

I wasn't enamoured of Kerouac's On the Road. One of the characters annoyed the hell out of me and I don't think bohemian literature ages well.

I've started Naked Lunch 3 times and wasn't in the right space for it. Apparantly Junkie is better so I may try that. Burroughs was sick in more ways than one.

I read Ginsberg's Reality Sandwiches many moons ago and I should reread it.

Yes those books or beat generation did not age very good, but the old picture at the exposition are nice looking.
