do you know much about the first presbyterian church?
I do not know much about them but, have had loose ties to one in my town. They have been rather pretty chill with most things and not forceful of any belief upon me or my family. I have attended a service or two over the years and it was pretty cool the young Reverend was pretty modern and funny.
They do have a youth group that meets twice a month that my son attends to hangout with other peers. I have been to a meeting and the Reverend talks of public service and slight political things that would help your fellow man.
The children can volunteer for things that the church organizes.
They have ties to an orphanage in Haiti and help out a lot.
My issue is I was raised Catholic and my son will be confirmed next year after years of CCD classes. I do not always agree with all things Catholic and I am very lax about it, not going to Mass much this year. My local church has some great people who run it and I have known them for years. I am also very open to all religions and faiths. I do have a strong dislike for the born again type of person who are completely judgmental.
I am slowly considering being associated with the first presbyterian church and would like to know more about them from outside sources. However I find myself very traditional and it would be hard to say I am not Catholic.
thanks

Please note this was placed on purpose in a drama free zone out of respect, I have no intentions of this discussion to become a debate on religion. Just kindly sharing information, all views are welcome at the same time.

I think that aside from the philosophy of the particular sect, each community is different, and each church is different. Without having been to this particular church in this particular community, I don't think anyone can advise you better than your own observations.
Do their religious views go against yours in any way?
Are they involved in politics, and if so, is that ok with you?
How well are the church funds managed - are they going into someone's pocket or supporting causes you believe in?
Do you like the people, the music, the sermon, the activities?
Do the members have a friendly, active community that is open to others?
From your post, it sounds as though the answer to the above questions will be "yes", but the issue is that you have defined yourself in a certain way (Catholic person). If you are really "open to all religions and faiths", then maybe it's time to step out of this box.
Why not just attend their services and activities and see if this church meets your needs before becoming "associated" with them? You can date them for a while before you marry them, I think.
As for the specific religious ideology of Presbyterians, here is their official site for the US: Presbyterian Church in America
As far as I know, "First ________ Church" is just a common naming convention in the US (First Baptist, First Lutheran, First Methodist, etc.). The church probably belongs to the above organization, but you could ask the minister to be certain.
As far as the politics, they are supporters of some local farmers asking only 1 penny more for tomatoes. I think that is the story and go on trips down to below Miami and help them out.
Nothing so outrageous, I need to ask him about the healthcare and offering birth control, that may seal the deal.
They are very likely affiliated with the Presbyterian Church USA. The Presbyterians are a very mainstream Christian denomination, not known for having any off-the-wall or unorthodox doctrines.
The one thing they ARE known for is being fairly unemotional in their worship -- perhaps 1 on a 10 scale, vs. Perhaps a 7 for the Baptists and 9.5 for the Pentecostals, so much so that they are frequently referred to as "God's Frozen Chosen."
