Default My Revelation

In case you hadn't noticed my signature quote, I've recently finally come to grips with and acknowledged something I've known for a great many years. There is no god, and I am atheist.

I feel so much freedom in my mind now I can't even begin to explain it. My years of suppressing what I knew to be true have hampered who I truly am. Indeed, warped who I truly am.

I'm tired of apologizing for being a dick. But here's one last one. I'm sorry I was a dick in the past. I am evolving for sure. Forcing a mindset on yourself, is dangerous to your health and relationships.

Peace.

The only position that leaves me with no cognitive dissonance is atheism. It is not a creed. Death is certain, replacing both the siren-song of Paradise and the dread of Hell.

Life on this earth, with all its mystery and beauty and pain, is then to be lived far more intensely: we stumble and get up, we are sad, confident, insecure, feel loneliness and joy and love.

There is nothing more; but I want nothing more.

5 users laughed. The question is: Are they laughing with you, or at you?:

I was watching Stephen Fry on Craig Ferguson's show last night and he was talking about this atheist church he attends in England. They start with world class performers singing or playing music, then someone gets up and speaks about quantum physics or the miracles of science, and then they have discussion of different scientific principles or ideas. It sounded like a really nice place to go on a Sunday (or any day). I work in an academic community, but all anyone does is position themselves for little tiny bits of power and argue and gossip about each other.

I am not an atheist, as you know. But I totally respect your right to be one, and have no interest in converting anybody to my perspective, which comes to me after long years of wyrdness. Frankly, and I mean this, some of my best friends are atheists.

What Sans talked about triggered memories for me- back in New Paltz I had all kinds of friends in all kinds of groups, everything from African drummers to Rotary club to expat Spaniard Galician bagpiper who held a "Rome" night [the miniseries from BBC] once a week that turned out to be a small gathering of professors and teachers and writers and musicians... a "salon" in the old French way. And the arts scene was the same way, many folks aren't into the whole religion thing.

In my book, a person's spiritual path is private and not to be impinged upon.

In fact, many/most of my friends are atheists who tolerate me [and my non-preaching style]. I like to Think. So do they. We get along.

All humans have a spiritual side. That doesn't require any religious ideology, or even a "god".

So, you Go, Sir.

It must be a God somewhere in USA because Custer with the 7th cavalry got his ass whooped because he was riding down on women and children living in peace in their own land.

Karma is a natural process, imo, not a god.

That wasn't God; that was the Cheyenne and Lakota.
