I'm sorry, I really am. I even intended to mention that I enjoy the book "On The Beach" FAR more than the movie. No slight intended, and I certainly hate to see you slide into all-caps posting.
Anyway, when I am less tired and more coherent, I'll start a "vintage/classic sci-fi fantasy book" thread.
Or something.
I'm sure NO ONE in this thread has read the novella "And Us, Too, I Guess", by George Alec Effinger. It would pain me to think that no one enjoyed the work of Clifford D. Simak.
Nevil Shute rocks! A Town Like Alice was one of my earliest reads.
I would be glad to start or participate in a "vintage/classic sci-fi fantasy book" thread as reading is my passion.

Max Brooks, the author, is one of the writers credited in the screenplay for the movie, btw, and reads as one of the narrators of the audiobook along with Alan Alda, John Turturro and Rob Reiner.

Reason: I'm wrong, he's only credited as author of the novel.

I may have to get that audiobook. I have the e book version I haven't read yet.
I will probably pass on the movie.
Um, trailer looks great, has absolutely nothing to do with the book though, lol. wtf.
That's what I always worry about in movies made from books. This was a great book, does it really need a movie?
I hesitate because of Philip K Dick. He's the exception that has great stories AND great movies (even thought the movies are often almost unrecognizable from the books I.e. Blade Runner and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep)

My virus scenarios are far more in line with "The Andromeda Strain". I have a hard time wrapping my head around any defect that invades the brain, but leaves the patrons, formally known as "zombies", interested in collaboration and a lot of effort to attack much healthier creatures in search of hors d'oeuvres.
It continues to fail on a conceptual level for me. Opera is the same: fat people breaking out in song? Give me a pause.
Hold on a sec. I'm fat, and I break into song all the time. How dare you, sir? HOW DARE Y...YO...Mmmmmm.....must fight...don't...give...gasp...in...
NOOOOOO!!!

Che bella cosa na jurnata 'e sole,
N'aria serena doppo na tempesta!
Pe' ll'aria fresca pare giŕ na festa...
Che bella cosa na jurnata 'e sole.
Ma n'atu sole
Cchiů bello, oje ne'.
O sole mio
Sta 'nfronte a te!
O sole
O sole mio
Sta 'nfronte a te!
Sta 'nfronte a te!
Quanno fa notte e 'o sole se ne scenne,
Me vene quase 'na malincunia;
Sotto 'a fenesta toia restarria
Quanno fa notte e 'o sole se ne scenne.
Ma n'atu sole
Cchiů bello, oje ne'.
O sole mio
Sta 'nfronte a te!
O sole, Ohhh sole mio
Sta 'nfronte a te!
Sta 'nfronte a te!
