Nice! I wish it were easier to keep track of these things...I'd set up some sort of prize or something.

Press junket stage two:

I was also interviewed for the "Found in the Alley" geek themed podcast.

Listen to me ramble about not only my novel, but lots of spoilerific commentary about Mass Effect 3.

Fair warning: F'd in the A is usually NSFW in spots.

Geek themed? Oh, I'm sure no one here is interested in that!

YAY!
Good interview, man!

But...

Why is Jacob wearing a tuxedo shirt all of a sudden? Where did he get the business card? As long as the book may currently be, I easily removed 10 percent of the original draft.
Is this the scene I'm thinking of?
With the timing and the fighting and the business contacts and stuff?

God, that sounded really “hipster” after I wrote it. ”They’re this really obscure Swedish band…you’ve probably never heard of them.”

But, gratz on the interviews!!

The chapter I deleted was the one with Jacob and Tyler going to a trade show for some reason I can't even remember. There had been going to be a subplot about Israeli Secret Service and such, but I had abandoned it.

It's been a crazy month for me. I finally added the new edition and my review is up.
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...haven-and-hope

Quote:
There are a lot of thoughts running through my head about this book as I'm writing this review. I do need to get one thought out up front. This book is good. When I finally got the chance to sit and read it I read it in two sittings. I became immersed in this world and the writing was superb enough to never break that immersion. Hawthorne's style is simple and clean. There's not a lot of prose but there is good storytelling and this story keeps a good pace.

I met this author through an online venue that was all about creativity but not really about writing. When I had learned he had written a book I was curious and asked for a copy to read and review. It seemed right up my alley, being cyberpunk, one of my favourite genres. I would actually have to call this book cyberpunk lite. While all the elements are there I found there was little techno babble. This may be a good thing. I know a lot of people that just don't like hard core science fiction that would truly like this book. It reads a little more like a really good thriller mystery with a lot of science fiction as a base.

The characters are fully fleshed and Jacob, our protagonist, is a flawed hero (aren't they all?) whom you do grow to care about. The others populating this story don't just seem like extras that the hero has to interact with, they feel like they belong in this world.

I am eager to read the next in this series and hope there will be one.

Only half way through the podcast but in the first 5 min I earned a couple things about Auggie

1) He's a gamer! Not sure exactly what type of gamer though. In my day that meant pencil and paper and lots of colored funny shapped dice but now days it appears to mean more XBox stuff

2) He has the misfortune to share a middle name with the first name of my least favorite Star Trek character. Don't get me wrong Auggie, it's a very cool name, just "tainted" by the STTNG connection.

3) Dude, you totally have a good enough voice to do a "as read by" version of your book

1) it means all of the gaming, but in the pen and paper and LARP scenes, I was kind of a big deal for a while.

2) I was already jaded by my middle name well before that series came out.

3) Thank you. I've done radio, and I used to do radio on SL back in the day too.

Yup, that's the one I'm thinking of.
I remember there being a connection with one guy and a business card then another guy from the car or something who was involved with the other guy... I think I know where you were going with that though...

So, in an effort to drum up more sales, and utilize my existing fans as a base of operations, I've come up with an idea.

Starting right now, I'm running a "Help Me Sell Books" promotion.

All promotions mentioned below are for sales between now and the end of July, including ones I generate on my own.

At ten more copies sold, I'll release an "as read by the author" audiobook sample of the Prologue from Haven and Hope as a free download.

At twenty more copies sold, I'll add in Chapter 1 as well, along with a separate track of possibly spoilery author commentary.

At thirty more copies sold, I'll release the first chapter of the NEXT book as a free downloadable teaser.

Hopefully, the above might be enough impetus to encourage some of you to re-share the link, and badger a friend or two into buying it ASAP!

Thoughts on this are welcome.

If you are willing to part with some of the paperbacks I really do suggest you look into the GR giveaways. They are asked to review the book and trust me when people win books in it they get excited. I know I used to.

http://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/new

Make sure it's linked to the paperback one. You can give away e books but that can be problematic.

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...haven-and-hope

One person on my f-list has added it to read which is good but word needs to get out about the paperback which is preferred.

So, um, should I PM you (Auggie) about that signed copy, or...?

I don't feel like I can leave commentary unless I base it on the released version.
So, I need to get a copy ASAP.

(Although, maybe I'll post a link on my FB account... this would be right up the alley of a few friends of mine.)

Number of sales generated since promotion announced: 1

Number of new ideas needed: Several.

Though I've got other options (and need to look into the goodreads deal that Zorena mentioned).

Well, I posted the link on FB today!
(I also noticed that the paperback version is available from the Amazon page(s). Sweet!)
Of course, I'll be ordering direct from our illustrious author personally... but still, I left the link out there for my friends and family to see.

New idea: YouTube video.
(As in, make some weird quirky thing... post it a couple places and hope that it catches on?)

Well, the total sales for the duration of the competition was 5, so no freebies this month.

I'll reset the deal for August, though.

30 sales: Audio chapter
40 sales: two audio chapters and author commentary
50 sales: preview of book two

I'll even include the sales I make at the book signing, so that should be a boost.

(shrug) Maybe it does need more boobs.

Most interesting compliment (?) I've received on my novel so far, from a co-worker:

It's really simple. Just copy and paste something like this in as a Status update. You can obviously change the text if you wish, just so long as the link stays the same.

A friend of mine I know from online forums has published his first novel. It's gotten several positive reviews from people on said forum. If you'd like to take a look, it's available on Kindle for $2.99, and in print for $13.99. Check it out!

I know, I know...sorry. Things have been hectic in my real professional life, so I have been remiss in dealing with those transactions.

Promise I'll come around on it soon.

I'd call that a back handed compliment. Unfortunately chick lit sells. Look at that abysmal Grey book.

It is a serious shame if you're book doesn't pick up because you have more promise than a lot of the dreck I've had to review.

The good news: Book Two of the Dark Mercury series is almost done with its second draft. This should be completed by the end of the week.

The bad news: So far in the month of August, I have sold exactly NO copies of Haven and Hope. Ideally, I'll drum up some interest with my Author Showcase and move a few, but I really need to get better at self-promoting.
