Four pantsuits: Streisand, Spacek, Fonda and Foster.

I was wondering what that thing was over Joan Fontaine's dress, it was like a lace headscarf, weird. It's the Oscars, Joan, not church, hehe.

Wait.... Sandra Bullock won an Oscar? For, like, "acting"? Christ.

Bette Davis and Spencer Tracy, 1939

Such a wonderful frame for her shoulders and head.

Loretta Young, 1948

I love this gown for some reason, though it's way more ruffly than I thought I liked.

She won for The Blind Side. I thought she was great in it, not Sandra-Bullock-y at all.

Was disappointed Cate Blanchett won last night, but for my own petty reasons (not liking Woody Allen). I haven't seen any of the performances of the Best Actress nominees except Sandra Bullock's in Gravity because none of the other movies were shown here.

99% of why I watch the Oscars is for the dresses and hairdos.

I've figured out I don't have to actually watch them to get that, what with the Internet.

P.S. Naturally, I was tuned into the walking dead. Female fashion there seems to follow an unspoken rule requiring sleeveless t-shirts worn over sleeveless t-shirts of a longer length. For an occasional change, they wear unbuttoned shirts over sleeveless t-shirts.

..and when they ask "Who are you wearing?" they mean it literally.

Tees

I THINK that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tee.

A tee whose empty threads are prest
Against our sweet chest's flowing breast;

A tee that absorbs sweat all day,
Still lifts her cotton arms to pray;

A tee that may in summer wear
The work of bobbins to fix her tear;

Upon whose bosom heads have lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only cotton makes a tee.

[with apologies to Joyce Kilmer]

Default And at the Met Gala...

Wow, simply Wow. This is the best selection of gowns I've seen in too long. Some klinkers, certainly, but most are just...

NBC had some pix that the Times didn't. Particularly lovely, Karolina Kurkova's gown:
