I owe you SC peeps for some of that.
If you become popular there will be plenty of fan slash fic.

I saw pdf mentioned somewhere. I'd love to start reading this but no way can I do that at my comp.

I stayed up till 3 AM the past two nights reading the whole thing. Wow, Augie, it's phenomenal! What's the status with the eBook? I'm definitely getting a copy of that, too, when it's ready. Thanks so much for your story, and I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.

Thanks, Sans!

The book is edited and nearly ready to go. I deleted a chapter and just need to iron out a few kinks related to that, otherwise I'm hoping for late May.

So, I'm going to drag this old chestnut of a thread back to life...

...because for any of you who have read this, I need your help coming up with a better NAME for this book.

Never mind the series name (which is also being discarded). I can't just call this book Zero or Book Zero, so I need something better.

I know most of you haven't read it in quite a while, so I understand if this thread goes fallow. But I've decided to drive for the finish line on getting this released, and this is kind of a major sticking point.

Thoughts?

So, I'm going to up the ante here a bit.

I really need some help naming book zero into something that makes a little more sense. For those of you who have read it, I'm asking your help to come up with a good name.

And now, THERE'S A REWARD!

Whoever comes up with the name I use for (what is now) Book Zero will win an advance copy of the next book all for themselves! That's right, it's written, it's being edited, and you'll get to read it first...well, probably about fourth since I've had friends read it, but anyhow...

So, get to thinking!

Interesting, I've already got a solid name for the next book:

So I thought of possibly going with a planets theme, (Dark Mercury, Venus in Fishnets, Earthbound, etc...), but that felt too space-faring.

I'm a really horrible person to ask about names - I tend to start brain storming really silly names.

I can't, right now because my brain leakage means I have to read your story over again just so I can remember the details.

What about riffing off of Velvet underground song titles for the series.

"All Yesterday's Parties"

"Sunday Mourning"

"You'll Be My Mirror"

Stuff like that

If you're ditching Dark Mercury as a series title, that could work instead of Book Zero.
But, besides that... hmm...

- Recursive
- Feels Like the First Time
- All Yesterday's Parity's (Thanks for the inspiration, Luc!)
- Then there was Jacob
- Nano Rymo ()

The books are now:

Book 1: (Formerly Book Zero) Haven and Hell
Book 2: Sunshine and Shade
Book 3: ... (okay, haven't gotten this one down yet)
Book 4: Ecstasy and Vendetta

The last is the name of a song by "Sex Gang Children," a very old-school goth band. But it still fits.

Sweet, dude.
I like the "[word] and [word]" scheme, it keeps the books recognizable.

(I went looking for an idea for Book 3, but figured you'll have it covered once you look through enough old goth-industrial songs anyway. )

Interestingly, the working titles for the books were named after goth/industrial songs. Book Zero never had one, but the others were

Breath of Ghosts (Assemblage 23)
Ecstasy and Vendetta (Sex Gang Children)
House on Fire (Assemblage 23)

Augustus,
Sorry I haven't looked at your E-pubs but how are you converting to an E-pub.

Some suggestions if your not already doing them
Make sure type setter quotes
Make sure to use no-breaking space right before ellipsis (non break)...
example:
and so it(nobreak space)(Ellipsis character) it will keep the ellipsis up with the text it should be with.
add some padding to the left and right margins.

Some good advice there, especially since my editor put the spaces in before all of the ellipses.

Edit: Do you mean straight quotes vs. smart quotes, or making sure to have the punctuation inside the quote?

Most people refer typesetter quotes = smart quotes.
some fonts the typesetting quotes look better.

I like the feel of that cover... there's just something about the minimalism of it.
If I saw it on a shelf at the bookstore, it'd make me want to read the back and see what it was all about.

(And knowing what I know, I'd end up buying it. )

Try not to spend it all in one place, ok?

In case you didn't figure it out, everyone...the book went live late last night at this link:

Even if you already read the book, and don't want to buy it for the Kindle, a good review would be welcomed, as would spreading the word among your friends that "hey, this is written by someone I know on the internets! Check it out!"

Some research has shown that a higher-end indie author (outliers excluded) sells about 700-800 copies of a book. Help me eclipse that!

And thank you, all of SC, for your support over all this time.
