Woof. Glad you caught that!

Of course, now I have a new theory. Wait... no. Actually, it's my original theory which was made into my newer theory because of that typo, which is now back to my original theory now that I know what the typo was (after going back and seeing what was redacted).

:D

Send me an IM with your theory. You won't be able to read my facial expressions or anything. I promise not to give YOU any spoilers.

Ayu Sura 12-06-2010 01:26 AM

Ooo! The plot thickens!

Augustus Bainbridge 12-06-2010 08:27 PM

Well, back to the previous schedule.

Chapter 23 is available at Dark Mercury. It is a fairly modestly-sized chapter, and really the last focused mostly on character development before the story gets into overdrive.

If you missed the interlude (or any other part), here's the main page.

Enjoy, and find my typos!

Lecktor Hannibal 12-06-2010 10:58 PM

I just wanted to let you know Auggie I'm thoroughly ensconced in your novel now. I started over from the beginning, as the days over the road hadn't lent me time enough for full concentration. So far I am fully mesmerized by the story, and intend to finish reading all that's there this evening. Great job mang, please keep it up!!

Uncle Fester 12-07-2010 01:50 AM

Auggie I noticed in the two interludes there was a couple places [ was used but not ] like it was a typo or something. Ill go reread it again and send you a om. Just wanted to put it in type so I didnt forget about it.

Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. I actually wrote it that way, didn't do a find and replace or anything. I'm sure I forgot a couple.

Great read as always!

Lecktor Hannibal 12-07-2010 03:16 AM

Splendid job, this story is completely captivating and well spun. I'll be waiting rather impatiently for the next installment. Great work here, seriously!

Magic Doohickey :hahaha:

Augustus Bainbridge 12-07-2010 11:47 AM

Thank you, everyone...I really appreciate the comments, compliments, and confidence boost you all have provided. It's been good to take that next step up from "well, my mom likes it."

As always, feel free to promote or pass the link to the book to anyone you know that you think might be interested. The farther removed from people who know me that it gets, the more my ego gets boosted. :)

Please please please take a look at this! I'm finding it hard to sit down at the computer to read, but my kindle goes with me just about everywhere.

(it's self publishing for blogs)

I'll have a look. :)

Augustus Bainbridge 12-08-2010 11:32 AM

It seems like the Kindle Publishing thing is for non-fiction. I'm looking into it still, but considering they sell books (and make a percentage profit), they may not be as inclined to allow a free serial.

Still, I shall apply.

Kick Frenzy 12-09-2010 12:42 PM

Another good chapter with some character (well, magic doohicky) development! :)

I can't wait to see how this job goes and what information they glean from everyone there. Poor Jacob, I bet his head'll be hurting just a wee bit after all that throughput!

And now for the nitpicky part (which is becoming a fun game):

Quote:

Jacob expects the detail that comes back to be highly speculative, and with several declared variables unresolved, but it surprised that the resulting feedback is very specific.
"but it surprised that"?

Augustus Bainbridge 12-09-2010 10:18 PM

Hey, it's time! Are you ready? I know you are!

Chapter 24 is up and ready for reading!

So are all the previous posts, for you slackers!

Enjoy!

Kick Frenzy 12-12-2010 02:07 PM

Took a couple days, but I got around to reading it finally... and glad I did! (Then again, I'm always glad I read the new stuff, so that shouldn't be a big surprise.)

I left my main comment on the blog, saving these next bits for here on the forums:

When you were describing the Ballroom and conference setup, I couldn't help but think of SLCC. The description you gave could fit any of numerous conference rooms out there, but it immediately called up images of the main room in Boston for SLCC2010.

And of course, I found something to pick on:

Quote:

The metal detector wands do not surprise Jacob at all, in part because the Haven data stream had pushed the eight-seven percent likelihood
As in, 87? Or 8, 7? ;)

Just to make it clear, as much as I :gaah: at the corrections, I love you guys for proofing and finding these things for me.

There is a word for that: Masochism.

Augustus Bainbridge 12-13-2010 07:59 PM

Here it is! The moment you've all been waiting for! The triumphant release of Chapter 25! It's a doozie, over 5K word count, so read it twice!

Action! Intrigue! Stuff that won't make any sense at all if you haven't read the rest!

So, what are you waiting for? Go get some! I've preemptively got a whole box of :gaah: ready for your edits!

Spaceman Opus 12-13-2010 09:05 PM

WooHoo!

I only found one thing, but I've missed alot that others have found, so...

Quote:

“It’s the principal of it,” Jacob says
Should be "principle".

I remember that one. "The Principal is your pal". And I thought what? You don't know MY principal!

Augustus Bainbridge 12-15-2010 01:34 AM

So, I have a question to ask you folks who've read my novel, or anyone who reads in general, really.

It's a tiny spoiler on something I'm trying to write through at the moment. It's not major, but just to be safe, I'm going to (try and) hide the question in case you don't want to see. Seriously, though, very minor spoiler, and I could use the help. Though you might want to hide your response, just to be nice.

If something is spoken in a foreign language that doesn't use the Roman alphabet, would you rather it be written phonetically, or left in it's native alphabet? One would be easier to read, or at least pretend to read, but the other would be easier to Google Translate for those so inclined. Although, I've done the Google Translate, and of the five sentences, only two actually make any sense when auto-translated back out of said language.

Thanks. :)

Spaceman Opus 12-15-2010 02:15 AM

Personally, I like to hear the things I read in my head and it would break up the flow of the story for me to have to go to another site just to hear the pronunciation.

:)

:qft:

I also despise footnotes for the same reason.

Augustus Bainbridge 12-15-2010 11:01 AM

Thanks, guys. That's what I thought, but someone else put a doubt in my head, so I was being wishy-washy about it.

I'll translate the stuff out phonetically before I post it tomorrow afternoon (hopefully! I'm a little behind schedule at the moment! :gaah: )

Augustus Bainbridge 12-16-2010 03:22 PM

I'm sad to say that there is not going to be a chapter posted this week. Work has been hellacious (I do a lot of my writing during lunch, but I haven't been able to take lunch yet this week), I've been nursing a sprained ankle, and I've just been wiped out when I get home.

I'll be back on pace next week, presumably.

Spaceman Opus 12-21-2010 01:42 PM

Whoa...totally missed this last night. Bad Spacey!

Great chapter as always, although now I don't trust anyone, and two typos for me this time :)

Quote:

“I wouldn’t worry too much about her finding her if you want to avoid her,”
Should be "her finding you" or just "...about finding her"?

And:

Hard to quote without giving stuff away, suffice to say the last sentence has an extra word...(It's "how" :))

Kick Frenzy 12-23-2010 10:28 PM

Well, shit just got real! (Just read Chaps 25 & 26)

For the record, I would prefer native alphabet so I could go use a translation thingy to find out what it says.

Lots of awesome stuff went down in these two chapters. I think I've decided to stop trying to do my Columbo impression and just enjoy the story as it unfolds. (Especially since my last idea was so entirely off base. :P) That being said, I'm certainly chomping at the bit to see what happens next and next and next! :)

Kick Frenzy 12-27-2010 05:55 PM

A HA! I figured as much, but glad I saw this!

Of course, I'm supposed to be off to Virginia for a few days, which just happen to be 3rd - 6th, maybe 7th. But *shrug* I tend to get to the new chapters about that late anyway. :D

Augustus Bainbridge 01-06-2011 12:05 AM

Sorry all, the crazy holiday-ness lasted longer than expected, and I'm still catching up on various other work and freelance obligations.

I am, however, finishing up the next chapter, which will be posted tomorrow evening.

Augustus Bainbridge 01-06-2011 12:06 AM

[and a double post upon my return, great]

Spaceman Opus 01-06-2011 07:53 AM

That just means you gotta post two chapters :D

Just read the last 4 chapters all at once - exciting! Moar!
