View Full Version : I Miss Kendra

She should be here with us

she is a very notable absence here

I miss her very much.

in case anyone was wondering, we made our peace and had spoken on the phone about a year before her passing

kendra was ALWAYS someone i admired (especially when sparring with her), and there is a noticeable empty place at the table without her here

even though i wasnt there, if my memory serves, she was the last poster at the original :sc:

i would love some kendra-isms in this thread

memories, photos, stories, quotes ("shut the fuck up you useless piece of shit").

Kendra is a part of :sc: even if she didn't make it to this address

rest in peace, Maddie

It was good to know her and banter her with her. She is here in spirit with the banter.

Kendra was one in a million.

I can't think of her without tearing up.

I miss her. She left too soon.

I think about Kendra regularly. She was herself through and through, you knew exactly who she was and she didn't hold back any punches no matter how much opposition she had, but she also had a heart of gold and it showed. She will always be missed.

She hated me.

Then she loved me.

She was great.

Goddamn that box of maggot filled rice-a-roni she got!

Goddamn that box of maggot filled rice-a-roni she got!

A small store bought box of Verm'celli
Which was destined for Miss Bancroft's belly
Was tossed away clean
Once meal worms were seen
So instead of dinner, she just watched the telly.

Indeed, it's been far too long, and kind of strange... I can't wrap my head around a grid without her.

Some stories...

a) Kendra helped with the creation of Caledon Kittiwick; if you go there, at the southern end of the boardwalk/street there is a *very* subtle Die Guild mark.

b) The plan was to restart Port Neualtenburg as a private estate, connected to Caledon, two regions worth. But it was never to be.

Her idea was to have a giant in~theme Bavarian castle in one region, with rented rooms and towers (and other things) of the castle, and the other region would be the port/market, all sharing waterways with Caledon/Winterfell/Lovelace. It would have worked; it was a completely viable plan. Without Kendra, this is now impossible ~ this is the future that never happened.

To my mind, though nobody notices its absence because they don't know about it, it was a tragic loss.

c) Businesswise Kendra was almost too nice to survive. But she did, financially... covering Neufreistadt handily for years and Port Neualtenburg too. Such generosity wasn't always returned, though. Asking a mere 10% cut, honour system, of content creators she managed to launch a number of them... who promptly moved on once they began making worthwhile incomes that might actually cover tier, in many cases.

d) The teacup I left for Kendra's memorial was returned something like six months later; I noticed this, and it is now on my desk in the Guvnah's Mansion in Victoria City. This is a copy of the cup that was the *only* thing that I sold during the Neualtenburg Expo of 2005, when I was a total unknown... I made $L 10 in two weeks there.

Standing in the Expo and looking at their city, my thoughts were that this was a vast, huge region; a grand storied place full of history... and young Des, as it turned out, was lucky to sell just a single teacup. With these thoughts swirling in my head, four months later and flush with content creator success I launched a small new region called Caledon. The inspiration garnered from Kendra's Neualtenburg, I think, is obvious.

I know this will sound strange but I must think about Kendra like every week due to one thing or another -- if is not one texture, then it is some build, or some post I see.

I think we all miss her very much -- even people like who knew her very little but fell in love with her tough love, no nonsense, balanced point of view.

Oh, yes I miss Kendra. She had a big influence on my RL, and for that, I'm forever grateful.

Kendra is one of the reasons I'm involved in Alsacian theatre today.

Her enthusiasm regarding Neualtenburg helped me move on and get rid of my resentment towards Germany (not easy, back then, when on one hand I was *intellectually* fine with German people, had German friends and all that, but on the other hand still bore some 3rd-generation scars from the World Wars).

Thanks to her, I finally accepted that my dialect is germanic. And that's fine, it's great even. How could I be so narrow-minded?

A few months before she had to leave SL, Kendra had started building a new village, Neuenburg, in the sim next to Neualtenburg.

It was an Alsacian village, based on real burgs from the north of Alsace. I'm Alsacian, so it was particularly close to my heart. The place never really had a chance to take off, but I'm sure it would have, with enough time.

She was distraught when she had to destroy Neuenburg. I told her the builds would exist forever in her inventory, and that she'd rebuild the village in the future.

And now she's gone. She's really gone.

While I may or may not know who this Kendra person is that you are all talking about (I was busy trying to manipulate my way into rulership as the Antichrist when she evidently passed on), I do feel as though this is an appropriate time to announce that I have added the :kendra: smiley to SC mk II.

You may wish to use it when invoking the spirit of Kendra, or perhaps in conjunction with the acronym WWKD, as follows:

WWKD? :kendra:

For some people there is no equal. In the old SC she was the only one I would respect in any argument... (sorry Mulch), and her points, whether you agreed or not, made sence. Kendra was one of those one in a million people who made a difference, and it is to (all of) our shame that SC was not alive (sic) at her passing. She would have considered this the ultimate irony.

I wasn't sure what you were referencing, the only thing I see is text but being the good "Bond Girl" that I am I knew there was something I was missing and so I quoted your post and can see the text of where you have an image inserted, but unfortunately I cannot view whatever you have. I even tried to paste the url in a new browser window but apparently someone has attempted to assassinate photobucket. You'll probably be getting a message from HQ soon asking for your assistance.

Good grief. Obviously, it shows for me - I wonder if there is a bandwidth issue? Holy fuck. Could you take a screen cap and pm it to me?

If this is the case, time for new hosting. BTW, it was a screencap of Kendra's - and SC's - last post.

I was cleaning out my inventory the other day, I found a Kendra Table. It was so weird.....

I mean, she is gone but something she created remains, even if not rezzed, in an inventory somewhere. And when you least expect it, she is in front of us again, with something she put some time into.

Creating in SL is in a way continuing to live on beyond your physical body....
