The over head is lower, and Springfield, Illinois is really lacking in this area.
I make a slamming breakfast, vegetarian or non-vegetarian and have a special recipe for most things i make.
We already have over 15k in a 401k saved for it and plan on applying for bank loan sometime in 2011 once we have closer to 25k of our own money and we'll be using the house as collateral.

I like Jen's job :p
oooo hire meeee!!!
Have no clue what I want to do, and have been thinking about it a LOT lately. My thoughts on it are to do jobs that are artistic, to keep my brain in that mode, but not in an area that will kill my art baby. Advertising certainly would, as anything that has me pumping standardized mindless crap out 24/7.
I have had trouble trying to express such a job in words, and the closest job I have thought about is one that has been in the back of my mind for a while. Cake decorating (ironic about our convo, huh Sans? :p), but not just writing 'happy birthday' on birthday cakes. Somewhere with high end cakes, that requires me to think closely about the limited tools and materials at my disposal and make it happen. It is a challenge, a good kind for me. There is a definite goal at the end (which my art tends to lack, a major reason I have so much trouble starting/ finishing pieces...) and the path to that goal is pretty much up to me. The limitations of the tools and materials keep me on path, so I can't wander too far... but I think it allows me to wander far enough to satisfy day to day artistic craving, and certainly keep me thinking.
I just want to make enough for a small place on some land. Enough room for me to have a studio (like a 3 car garage is a perfect size) to do my own art and to live cozy with mai boi (but not too cozy... we would drive each other mad!). Animals always bring out the happy muse side of me too, which is why I need some land. A few horses, some dogs, a pot-bellied pig for the lulz, and a poo-flinging monkey for personal homeland security XD
okies, I am done now...

Funny this thread got bumped when it did, cause I was just thinking about it and talking to Mulch about a dream job I forgot to mention.
I actually did mention it to Kendra too... probably only once... but I would love to do voice acting. I really enjoyed my bout in speech and debate team in high school... and I was pretty good at it :) I consistently performed better in the individual events that involved speeches than the actual debate events (though I never did badly in any event). Learning to recite things and make speeches was a very similar process to how I imagine voice acting to be. You have to be able to say something 10 distinct different ways, and be able to consistently say it those ways over and over.
Essentially, it is a job I would enjoy doing and I know I could become really good at. It also would be a way of living I could deal with. I would be independently contracted for work, work my ass off for a week, make enough to live off of for at least a month. That leaves plenty of time to work on whatever art project my little heart desires at the time. Sounds like a great life to me :)
So... anyone have any connections/ info on how to get started in voice acting? How do I put together a portfolio/ samples, who do I send them to, etc?
