Post good deals on steam in this thread:

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic is $4.99

Anyone who hasn't played it should buy it, star wars fan or no it was a LOT of fun.

Total War mega pack is up, every Total War game except shogun for 17 bucks. Hell just medieval 2 by itself is worth that much.

Oh and Alpha Protocol is 2 bucks. I'm having problems justifying not buying it even if it may be bad and really isn't my style of game.

It's worth about 2 bucks.

Yeah on one hand a lot of reviewers have panned it. On the other hand those same reviewers gave glowing reviews to Dragon Age 2.

Portal 2 is 50% off.

I'm still not buying it.

Crysis 1 + xpacs are 9.99, and odds are you can actually play it by now.

The Red Faction series is 75% off, and Duke Nukem forever has gone from full priced to budget costs in roughly two months. Just goes to show it was shit (HAHA TOLD YOU SO).

Steam is giving me agita. Any advice from you cy-tekki-wiki-borgs? Matt got a "birthday" check [six months late] and since we paid bills on my birthday we shared it- went to Tarjay and got some video games. And they're all linked to fucking Steam, and fucking Steam is fucked up- Matt hasn't gotten to play any of his games at all, and I played a marathon of Skyrim [in lag mode on my old puter] last night, and now 12 hours later it won't load at all.

So tell me, swamis, wtf???

PS we have avg on both puters, is there a way to make the two play nicely? I am NOT taking my antivirus down for this stupid-assed Steam shyte!!! [and why can't we just insert the disks and PLAY OUR FREAKING GAMES???? WTF????? AND ARGGGGH!!!!] > : (

Steam sucks. It's like bloatware I swear. And if it tries to download an update and gets interrupted, your game becomes completely unplayable and you have to download or reinstall the entire shebang all over again.

And I already have Knights of the Old Republic anyways, so plah.

Did you try arm waving?

I'm told you can leave Steam on long enough to activate your games, and then set it to "offline mode" (however you do that) and then set your firewall to block Steam from ever accessing the net and that will help you avoid all the BS.

Skyrim is a one-player game; why would I need or want to join an "online community" for a one-player game?

Tell AVG to ignore C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\Common\

Alternatively, I just turn mine the hell off when I'm playing games :p

is it skyrim that won't launch or steam?

Try launching skyrim direct:

go to C:\program files\steam\steamapps\skyrim\ and double click the skyrim launcher.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim is the path if you are on an x64 system.

FYI go ahead and bookmark the skyrim folder as you are going to become VERY fucking familiar with it once the mods start flowing in.

if it's just steam fucking up, ctrl alt delete, kill any steam processes running, then go here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam

And delete clientregistry.blob

For some reason this file fucks up a lot. Bear in mind that any games mid download may need to be re-downloaded.

I sometimes wonder why people have so many problems with steam. I've been using it since i bought HL2 years ago and literally no issues beyond one failed download and a quick blob delete.

Probably just the idea of the thing. People like and are used to buying a CD, installing a game, and playing it. There was nothing wrong with that system of doing things. Steam as a required-to-be-running shell is just superfluous and pointless. And needlessly invasive.

It's like, have you ever had to download RealPlayer, and found out that basically if you don't choose "Custom Install" and uncheck like every single option there, the program kinda tries to take over your whole computer? And this was annoying because all you wanted to do was watch the one or maybe two streaming videos left online that required RealPlayer to watch, and that's literally all you ever planned to use it for, but you ended up with a shameless legal trojan disguised as a media viewer?

Steam is like that.

There's also that if you manage to get banned for being a dweeb on the Steam forums, all your single-player-games on your own computer that you should never have needed an internet connection to play anyway are irreversibly broken and you can never play them again. Even though you have the CD you bought from a store. Funny, but even a troll-hater like me has to admit that ain't right.

Fallout new vegas is five bucks for the next 13 hours. I'd strongly suggest buying it. Toodles.
