I did grab the book found one reserved it on line.
They must have gotten an order in the shelves were bare last time.
The show is selling these books pretty darn fast.

That Cersie looked so familiar to me, she is beautiful the actress, at first I could not place her.
She is the "queen" from 300! I loved her in that movie.

HBOgo next week gives a viewing of the next episode one week in advance, right after Sundays episode.
I guess they are pushing this HBOgo pretty good.
Its not a bad thing and free if you have HBO.

spoiler (cant get a spoiler tag to work I am a dork)

wft was up with the scene of Robin Arryn sucking on his mothers tit at that age and getting the child actor to do it?

grossed me out
I did not expect them to show that part.

hmm
I thought he looked pretty young, younger then my son(I could be wrong) and then if so fake or not weird.

to add:
just looked to see if anything was said about that and found this info on the actor playing Robin Arryn;
Lino Facioli is a Brazilian actor. As of 1 January 2010 he was nine years old. He was born in Brazil but moved to London at the age of four. He is fluent in Portugese and English. His biggest role to date was in the 2010 movie Get Him to the Greek.

well duh. you don't expect them to make it look fake do you?

i mean seriously.... do you really think they are going to let an 11 year old kid actually breastfeed in the name of fiction? that right there is kiddie porn and sexual abuse of a minor and a whole lot of other bad things that children services come and lock you away for. that entire scene HAD to be set up, the parents were probably right there, child services was probably there, they probably had a friggin psychologist or something there AND they used a fake tit and fake moisture.

if ever there was a time when the producers would have to tred carefully, this would be it.

also a skinny Lysa with big plump juicy well-formed tits. they'd have to find an actual recently pregnant gal for that. them titties was fake.

Sansarya
05-16-2011, 01:36 AM
They aged everyone up in this show, and it kind of skews the plot a bit (like with Jon Arryn breastfeeding at age 11). Dani is only supposed to be 14. Bran and young Jon Arryn are supposed to be seven. Arya is supposed to be nine and Sansa should be 12-13. Even Catelyn looks 40, though she should be a lot younger, too (like in her mid-late thirties).

I raced through all 4 books also. One positive is that I think I have already forgotten parts as I went through it so quickly. I have already reread the first book and will probably reread them all again before the 5th book comes out.

I haven't looked at his website either. Having devoured the books as quickly as possible and watched (and rewatched) the HBO episodes as soon as they became available, I thought I was starting to slide into some sort of weirdness about it all. Heading over to his website and getting involved in the discussion there would be the final step downward that I thus far have resisted. Although I'm sure I will before July 12th.

Watched episodes 1 & 2 last night. Cool stuff. Oh the drama!
I like the little details though. Like when noblemen are out in the field with their personal house guard, there's lookouts posted on the hills. There's no lollygaggin', dudes are patrolling! Like proper hauskarls should.

Also, I like how the whitest white girl in all the land was married off to the scary tan skinned Burning Man Mongol tribe.

Yep. According to IMDB:

S1, E7: You Win or You Die — 29 May 2011
S1, E8: The Pointy End — 5 June 2011
S1, E9: Baelor — 12 June 2011
S1, E10: Fire and Blood — 26 June 2011

So the off week is between E9 and E10. But then book 5 comes out on July 12, 16 days after the season finale. :frolic:

I just am SO annoyed yet pity her too - I HOPE she'll eventually wise up, but I suspect that with her wolf missing she lacks - spiritual I guess? - support and will never recover and possibly even get so brainwashed she will harm the family in a worse way later... (as in in later books)

That and she is just a young girl programmed to have dreams of knights in shining armor on a white horse to rescue her, literally.

I despise her. She has no loyalty, no integrity, no character and needs to die, slowly.

Her sister was raised in the same household and is great. She simply sucks. :p

She is also ten times worse in the books, at least I'm not forced to read chapters about her whining, backstabbing, shallow bullshit while grinding my teeth, watching the tv version.

Oh Sansa, Sansa, you FOOOOOOOOL!

Yeah, Sansa hasn't the sense not to fall for the Hitler Youth brat.

Oh yeah, I have a question, why is dude humpin' his sister?

twins. in love.

They wuz raised in Arkansas. :p

gross.
And then so, why isn't the prince a pin-head?

You don't think he has issues?

I think the whitest dude wants to hump his whitest sister, but the dark husband will not allow it!

I suspect he used to take his liberties with her. If you saw ep. 1 you saw how he examined her body pretty casually to make sure she looked good for Horse Dude.

I think they made Sansa bitchier in the show than she is in the books, and I can't believe GRRM let them do that because in the books she has some good scenes with The Hound (two of which they've already cut out). I was hoping GRRM would continue that story arc. I asked him about it when he came to SL but he wouldn't answer except to say his own "Sansa" (his wife, Parris) wanted the same thing I was hinting at in the story.

Arilynn
05-24-2011, 10:44 AM
I dislike Sansa as well, although she eventually wins my sympathy. But I thought it was a reasonable portrayal. Imagine what would happen to most teenaged girls if they were raised from birth with everything centered around being a future lord's lady or even a queen. I assume a good chunk of them would be exactly like Sansa. As much as I like Arya and adore Brienne I'm glad Martin included a counterpoint, one that is probably more realistic.

Ayu Sura

Yeah but I can't see Catelyn teaching that nonsense, you know?
Being a high-born girl, she probably spent more time with her septa and other caregivers/teachers than her mother, if medieval times are a template. Even if that is not true, she probably didn't learn it from Catelyn any more than Arya learned to be a boisterous tomboy from her. I think there are a lot of strong women in these books (and that Sansa shows her type of strength after a point) - it is one reason why I enjoyed them so much. But my feeling is that Sansa's starry-eyed need to believe romantic notions about love, knights, gallantry, and men probably reflect something intrinsic to her, just as Arya's love for fencing does for her.

I didn't think the Baelor's Sept scene would make me cry, but I nearly sobbed looking at Arya in the final scene. I don't remember crying when I read the scene in the book, but it's been about seven or eight years since I first read it. They really captured how devastating that was. I hope they do the Bran/Rickon/Maester Luwin scene in the crypts of Winterfell next week. Also, no more Sean Bean :QQ:

Making Tyrion fall in a pile of shit and get trampled/knocked out through the whole battle sucked. I felt cheated by the lack of battle scenes at all. Maybe they're too hard to stage or too expensive to find that many extras?

Reading the book makes the episodes feel so fast paced and rushed... even tyrions story of his marrage, I could nearly hear the metronome timing him talking to get the story out as fast as possible... also, in the book his father makes him then pay his wife a gold coin after his guard is done with her..

I hadn't gotten to the spoiler bit at the end in the book yet, so I'm slightly miffed, going to give next weeks a miss until I'm done with the book if I'm not finished it by then.

Sean Bean Stabbed Outside London Bar, Remains Fully Awesome (http://www.cinemablend.com/celebrity/Sean-Bean-Stabbed-Outside-London-Bar-Remains-Fully-Awesome-32789.html)

It’s easy to think that some of these so-called movie heroes are just characters who do good on film and then are total dicks in real life. And while that may be true for some, we learn today that this is not the case with Game of Thrones star, Sean Bean.

Bean often plays characters who follow a heroic path only to meet their grisly end at the hands of his many enemies, but that didn’t stop him from sticking his neck out to protect the honor of his model date, April Summers, from lewd comments coming her way from a passerby. The man, according to the Daily Mail, started shouting obscenities at the girl (who is 30 years younger than Bean. Irrelevant, but awesome) at which point Bean followed him until he seemingly scared him off. However, the man returned later that night as Bean and Summers were outside having a smoke. Bean was punched in the face and then stabbed in the arm with broken glass before the man fled.

This is where Bean gets even more awesome. Instead of going to the hospital to get treated, he simply treated his wounds with the first aid kit the bar had on hand and then ordered another drink and kept enjoying his night with his hot 22-year-old model date. . .

You know I agree, even though I think they have done a pretty great job capturing the feel of the story, so far, although I have no idea how they are going to cram all of Dany's story from the rest of the first book into one remaining episode without making it very different.

That scene didn't capture the pain of Tyrion's story to me, it just seemed to pack more of a punch in the book. After that, I wanted his father's head on a spike.

It was great except for Sansa failing to push the Hitler Youth off the bridge. ;)

Hooray for gratuitous nudity! Did anyone catch Grand Maester Pycelle's little act that he does, pretending to be blind and infirm?

Well, not quite. From what I understand it'll start in April like s1 did.

Shooting begins July 25, however.

BOOK INFORMATION IN HIDE TAGS PLEASE!!
Or not.

Just saying, some of us (like me) haven't read the books and don't know what's coming beyond what we've figured out from the show.
(Like how I've been waiting for tonight for a several episodes now.) :)

GREAT episode tonight!
Not that I'm surprised by any of it, especially our Khaleesi. :D
I've SO been waiting for her to assert her dragon heritage and take a leader role!

SO.
FUCKING.
STRONG.

No worries, Monna.
It was pre-emptive. :)

I didn't see anything in your post that I didn't already know.
I just get nervous... I mean... once I know I want to see a movie, I hide from the previews.

Yup, I'm like that.

You rock and so does that show.
I think equally as hard.

Hard.
hehehe.... ;)

I'm looking forward to next season.

I hope it remains as faithful to the books, and can barely wait for Tyrion to hook up with the Khalissi.

One of my favourite parts of the second book is when Tyrion is riding the Dragon into battle, and almost single-handedly wipes out Jon Snow's army.

And OMG... season 3, we'll have the return of Sean Bean when the Pale Walkers reach King's Landing.

Undead Ned FTW

The way the Lord of the Iron Isles removed Bran's wheels was horrifying.

You forgot that Tyrion gets magically lengthened into a tall man.

You need to read further, turns out that's simply an illusion conferred by his bond to the dragon.

When Aria kills the Dragon he's seen as he really is again.

She should have had all her hair burnt off, Hollywood cop-out.

But the dragons looked good.

What did they eat as babies? I don't remember. They hunt on their own as they get bigger and they get a LOT bigger.

Yes, but because of his stature, Tyrion is the first to ride one.

I was actually surprised they had her clothes burnt off...hard choice. (Hollywood going for the most appealing factor) Either both burnt off or both left unburnt to show she really was immune to fire.

the dragons looked awesome!

If "fire cannot harm the dragon," why would it burn her hair off?

I had to laugh at a comment on another site about that scene, though -- "I surprised myself by not fixating on Dani's boobies. I kept staring at the dragons!"

Oh, BTW, for those who haven't read the books yet, I suggest you do. It's a great series. I'm on my 3rd go round. Waiting for the new book.

It's months till the next season. I am sure some of us who have read them will want to continue posting in this thread to while the time away. Will I be assed to hide things behind "tags". NO.

Not trying to be a bitch about it, but really, if you are that worried about what will happen next season or the next, then perhaps you should not read this thread till next season. (or read the books and carry on in this thread) Just my opinion...

No offense to anyone in particular. :halo:

I wasn't trying to be too snarky. I guess just didn't care for being asked to put comments about the books behind spoiler tags, as the tv series is over for now.

Excellent NYT article on Peter Dinklage:

Peter Dinklage Was Smart to Say No

By DAN KOIS
In January, the actor Peter Dinklage surprised himself during his own Golden Globe acceptance speech. Dinklage had won the award for best supporting actor in a TV series for his portrayal of the complex, sharp-tongued Tyrion Lannister, who’s the closest thing to a hero in HBO’s epic swords-and-sex hit “Game of Thrones,” which returns for its second season on April 1. As he took the statue from the presenter, Piper Perabo, the onstage microphone stand quietly lowered into the floor to accommodate the 4-foot-5 actor.

Dinklage thanked the people he needed to thank — the author George R. R. Martin, who wrote the novels on which “Game of Thrones” is based; his mother in New Jersey; the cast and crew. As the wrap-it-up music began to swell, Dinklage thought about what his wife had been telling him all night at their table: “Let people know. It isn’t right.” He hesitated a moment, then thought, I’m just gonna do it. “I want to mention a gentleman I’ve been thinking about, in England,” he said quickly. “His name is Martin Henderson. Google him.”

A month later, during breakfast at the Trump SoHo hotel in Manhattan, Dinklage still seemed a bit uncomfortable with the attention his off-the-cuff comment received. “I read about him online the day before the Globes. It really made me sad. I don’t know why.” He corrected himself: “I mean, I know why: it’s terrible.” In October, Henderson, who is 37 and is 4-foot-2, was picked up and thrown by an unknown assailant in Somerset, England. He suffered partial paralysis and now requires a walker. The night of the Globes, after Dinklage’s mention, Henderson’s name was a trending topic on Twitter. Dinklage later turned down offers to discuss the case with Anderson Cooper and other news hosts.

“People are all, like, I dedicated it to him,” he said. “They’ve made it more romantic than it actually was. I just wanted to go, ‘This is screwed up.’ Dwarves are still the butt of jokes. It’s one of the last bastions of acceptable prejudice. Not just by people who’ve had too much to drink in England and want to throw a person. But by media, everything.” He sipped his coffee and pointed out that media portrayal is, in part, the fault of actors who are dwarves. “You can say no. You can not be the object of ridicule.”

Still don't like the actress playing Shae or how they are having her act the part, she really isn't at all like I imagined her.

Watching the specials on the new locations, though, the Castle where Arya winds up, the "haunted Castle" is exactly how I imagined it, though.
