We installed an opensim at work to use while we are speccing what type of servers need to be set up to run it at our local IT center.
I took one of our MAC minis, formatted it, installed a Windows XP SP 3 on it along with .NET and MYSQL and openSim 0.7.0.2. We are running it in grid mode with a robust server holding inventory and asset server and 4 regions hosted on one opensim server. All of this is in one machine right now and it is working swimmingly except when I unlink and relink objects with too many prims like say 100 prims and up.
We also brought up an account registration interface called WIFI that works off of the Robust server and makes account sign ups a snap. Too sweet.
We have four regions right now. I am mostly importing our SL TXSTATE University Campus onto the sim.
We did run into a glitch among a few others though. Our nightly backups save the MYSQL database out into an archive. However when we take this archive and place it on another machine with the same software installed, the regions fail to see each other as neighbors.
It is pretty weird that the machine 1 would work fine, and machine 2 (running off of the backed up data) fails to come up due to regions not configuring right. We removed the region data and it all worked but what's the use of that???
