So, anyone else here play D&D online? Just wondering if I should consider the possibility of running into people there/being able to team/group, etc..

I was about to play, but figured why bother if I'm going to create a new account under this name.

You haz D&D in yer bludz?

I'll have to let this simmer overnight, but I'll be figuring this out tomorrow (Friday) so I can take advantage of a "points" (DDO Store currency) promotion that's going on. :)

I tried it...I really didn't like it much :(

Alrighty then, looks like it's not so popular around here.

Unless I see differently in a few hours, I won't bother worrying about being me, instead of a different me. :D

Gameworld is about the size of a shoe.

Lord of the Rings Online is now free as well. I read earlier today that LOTRO has doubled it's revenue since going free and it's a much bigger world than DDO.

Yeah, Edav, I hemmed and hawed over which to go back to (beta tested both of them). I ended up with D&D for a few reasons, one of which is wider character creation (currently 6 races, 2 more coming later this month) and the other being less static lore, as LOTRO is more of a companion to the original story while the D&DO storyline(s) can deviate wherever they want, basically.
That isn't to say I wouldn't start a free account if we had a group of us over on LOTRO. ;)

Jorus, I'm only level 2 with my main so far. So I haven't gotten a chance to feel the size of the world really, but that's good to know. Although, you can purchase additional Adventure Packs, so it can be bigger... if you want to spend 150-950 points on them.

Mainly though, D&D is fun and does a good job trying to emulate a pen & paper session. Plus, once Half-Orcs come out (and I buy the race), I can make my monk from when I was playing p&p with some friends.

Aside from instances that town is the entire gameworld.

Any outdoor area you go to is an instance i.e. adventure. That's the reason that this game failed imo, the mechanics are a lot of fun, the system is well balanced and the gameplay is great. The problem is there is absolutely no world to explore outside the city unless you are doing a quest, and even those tend to be fairly linear.

I hit max level (at the time) in a little under a month and ran out of shit to do.

Frankly they fucked up BAD by not putting this in the forgotten realms and giving players the entire sword coast to romp around in.

Who wouldn't like to go to Baldurs Gate or Neverwinter? Expansions could be all the other areas. Faction warfare could be harpers vs shade vs thay vs Zhentarim etc. Hell they could have pulled a WoW and extended the game worlds story with this, what happens when Evermeet is overrun and the elves have to allow humans and dwarves in just to survive? Ooooooh.

Anyways: This is just like STO, it's what happens when you spend a year building a game instead of 5+. It deserved to fail the way it did.

Aha, not sure if I realized it was so limited, but you make some great points. I wonder if they may open it up to some degree in the future...

Oh well, maybe I'll check out LOTRO again, too.

It's barely breaking even, so I wouldn't bet on it.

I decided to give LOTRO a try. It's interesting, so far. Seems kind of easy at times, quirky at others. I have an Elf Hunter up to 14 after several hours of play. Plus I have an Elf Champion at 9. Both on Windfola.

I am getting LOTRO now. What is the magic character Bams was wondering? Mystic?

There appear to be a few magic wielders, but I think Rune-Keepers might be what Bams is after...maybe...

Check this info out: http://www.lotro.com/hero.php

ETA: Lore-Master would probably be a good one, too. I've come across several of those the last day and they seem to hold their own pretty well.

I have two toons on DDO right now, a rogue and a sorceror. I go in fits and starts- sometimes I play a few hours a day, sometimes I don't play for months. We had subscriptions for a year or so but really didn't do a lot with them.

I am currently playing my lvl 4 sorcerer a fair amount. But I mostly solo, and since Matt's not into running, we don't get into a lot of good dungeons any more.

Am on Argonessen [sp?], btw.

Started a new LOTRO thread over here (http://www.secondcitizen.net/Forum/showthread.php?t=10373) so as to stop hijacking this thread. :p
